Much more talented player than Wehr or Durdin, and we might get him for free on a rookie contract. To be fair Stephenson was the least objectionable of the legions of misfits people put forward during the trade period

As far as free hits go he’s probably the perfect guy in a redemption arc, most train ons won’t make it long term so why anyone has an issue with it is beyond me.Stephenson may have matured, realised he pissed away his talent and career and is looking for redemption? Whilst the chances of him pulling it off are against him, if he does it would be an awesome story.
Also has 240 recently retired and now has nothing better to do than post here? Never really noticed him untill recently. His posting is up there with the worst that exists on the Port board.

Do you have the link to the podcast. Wouldn’t mind a listen when I am not continually marking assignments that have been generated by AI!This is how I look at it:
The Stephenson we saw at Collingwood walks into Port's side
The Stephenson we saw at North, you wouldn't see that anywhere but at North. Seriously, if you listened to him on the Sacked podcast, you can understand why he wanted to retire. Playing at a club that's good at losing would suck the life out of most. Top that up with personally being targeted at training, COVID hub issues etc I can see why he fell out of love with the game. Speaking about it in the podcast, it also sounded like he'd really matured.
I dont have questions too on whether he could re-discover that form he showed at Pies. The only question I have is whether he can show that he's 100% committed to the cause and is willing to work for his spot.
If he shows that in the next month including training the house down, then he would be start come Round 1.
Rioli was never super fit but played on natural ability.
Stephenson is a hack that nobody will even look at apart from good old Port.
Hopefully they wake up and don’t give him a spot.

I listened to the podcast a while ago and I liked Stephenson but there was one thing that was a bit of a problem. He never seemed to take accountability for his poorer actions. Apart from that, he was pretty good but that was a bit of a red flag. I think he'll do fine but he might flame out after a year or two. It seems to be his way. Hopefully he can recapture his Pies form and kick goals and be dangerous. This is how I look at it:

"Fledgling" ?? None of those are fledglings, more like old "boilers!" Besides Watts, they were all depth at best.I wouldn't personally give Stephenson a shot, but I cant blame them for trying. If it comes off it could be a bargain boost. I also dont mind the strategy of just boosting depth in our current position.
My thoughts of resistance are mostly based around our history of fledgling players. How much success have we actually had with these types. Toumpas, Watts, Dumont, L Thomas, Narkle, and I'm sure there's more, none of them have been any more than a waste of time to be honest. Maybe this is the time it'll finally work though?

Well of course it looks bad if you just list the bad ones, but there's also Jay Schulz, Trent McKenzie, Matt White, David Rodan. Hell, go back far enough and you can find guys like Josh Mahoney and Adam Kingsley who were premiership players for us after being cut elsewhere.I wouldn't personally give Stephenson a shot, but I cant blame them for trying. No doubt they are working really hard behind the scenes to lure him backIt's also worth noting that Stephenson wasn't delisted, he quit. He got rid of Norf, they didn't get rid of him. He was in their 22 before his retirement.
Ill update if I ever do.I honestly don't think I started showing any real maturity until I was about 25 years old.
Maybe we can trade them for their 2021 #1 draft pick Jason Horne Francis... oh waitNo doubt they are working really hard behind the scenes to lure him back
I like the dude but there is a lot of underlying weirdness about Jaidyn.Interesting PB, like you i listened to it a while ago and actually thought he sounded like a reasonable bloke, and as per usual, what comes out from under the surface, once an interview is longer than a comments grab, gives you a different opinion of them.
However i thought the same in that he never really took ownership of some of his questionable behavior. But it almost becomes understandable when you consider the amount of smoke that must have been blown up him as a junior. He played in an Under 18 TAC Cup GF as an Under 16, was always considered a top 10 pick, goes to Collingwood and wins Rising Star.
To me it has come very easy and only now do i think he might have realised this. To that end i would test him out to see how serious he is. Tell him there is a spot at the Maggies and if shows commitment and effort he will be selected in the Mid Season draft. Just got a feeling if he goes straight on to the senior list it will just be another chapter in his it wasnt my fault story.
as long as he has ice baths his ok in my booksAnd Stephenson's off-field issues related to maturity, nothing more. He's not a rapist, druggy, DV perp. He was basically a child in an adult's world, laid a couple of stupid bets, ate too much crap and then fell out of love with football at a hellscape of a club.
As I said before, not everyone matures at the same rate. Hopefully he has grown up, learned responsibility and realises his talent is worthy of the big stage and shouldn't be wasted.
Early reports indicate he is taking this chance seriously. He just has to maintain dedication to earn a place.
Do we really think this version or Jayden Stephenson is better or has more potential than Dylan Williams?
Yes. By a fair margin as wellDo we really think this version or Jayden Stephenson is better or has more potential than Dylan Williams?
