Wait what... spend time in jail for overstaying a visa ? I've overstayed my visa in 5 different countries and only ever got a small fines. Never in germany though, scarey as fuark. I never thought it was a big deal unless you were overstaying for the purpose of building a terrorist network or something.

I spent four whole hrs in lockdown for being drunk in public a few months ago...the things I witnessed that night were shocking. I came out a changed man that's for sure

What is the correlation?

I could have been in prison for importing a 40 foot container full of smack and it would make my point no less valid.

I was thrown in the lockup in North Queensland after a big night out. The cell had four beds (two bunks) and since there was no one else there I got all four matresses and put them on one bed to make myself more comfortable. When I was awoken the next morning to be released I looked across at the other bunk and saw an Aboriginal bloke asleep on the bare bed springs while I slept on four matresses like a king  . Sorry mate.

da ****????

how long were you with him?? and if it was any more than a week (which it's safe to say from the story it was), can i ask why??

even if that were one of my best mates there is just no way in the world i could deal with that for any more than about a day.

It was just under a year.

Yeah he was a best mate, and was doing really well when I first moved in. Had his own trades business and was pulling in 3-4 k a week.

Obviously i was a lot younger and was more tolerant. These days I couldn't live with anyone. Even if they were the perfect house mate.

It sort of built up to a climax, and I'm generally a sucker for helping people out. I don't have any family here really so when it comes to my mates I treat them like brothers, but yes it did get to the point where I had to get the guy out of my life because he went beyond the point of no return.

I'm only 25 and I've had some of my mates for 20 years, since pre-school, so I would never just turn my back.

An interesting read, but not really relevant to an Australian prison.

Can you either shed some light on the matter or stop being so obtuse?

The guy who shared his story in the link was treated with great respect because people are generally just fascinated with the process and have compassion for their fellow human being. I have no doubts it'd be the same for you if you chose to share your story.

If you are assaulted in a Victorian prison then you are immediately removed elsewhere whether you wish to be removed or not, and the prison in question is susceptible to large payouts for failing to show the necessary "duty of care".

This heads off a lot of problems that are found in the U.S. system from the outset.

The racial issues are also non comparable.

Okay.

What about the rest of it?

Prevalence of drugs, relationship between convicts and COs, amount of freedom, ad seg, privileges given to convicts, TV and internet use, newspapers, relationships between convicts etc.

I'm genuinely just fascinated by it. After reading that link I had a quick surf on google trying to find similar posts but the only thing that came up was on SomethingAwful and I needed special privileges to read the archive.

- Drugs can be sourced by those that wish to find them
- Convicts and CO's tend to have distant relationships and only interact when necessary
- I don't understand what you mean by freedom or "ad seg"
- Standard privileges apply to inmates. These can be lost or expanded depending on various factors.
- Standard inmates have a TV in their cells and can acquire archaic prison computers for a cost. In time a convict can purchase a more modern computer via a special buy allowance. Strictly controlled internet access is a major privilege and I'm not sure of it's requirment. I assume it's only for academic purposes.
- Newspapers can be accessed on a daily basis.
- Non consensual sexual relationships are rare. Sexual criminals are looked down on in Australian prisons. Child tamperers and abusers are segregated for their own safety.

If you end up in a prison, my advice is to keep to yourself, be respectful without being an arse kisser, stand up for yourself if you are challenged or disrespected, avoid prison politics and stay away from cowards with large egos.

I overstayed my 6 month tourist visa in the US by almost 6 months, I was also working illegally there under a fake social security card and green card. Never got busted for it, not sure what would have happened if I was, probably would have just been deported back to Australia rather then put in jail.

The authorities there are so busy cracking down on illegal Mexicans there that I don't think they really give a shit about the odd Aussie staying and working there illegally.

It has no correlation.

I asked what you were in for and you ignored me so I asked again.

Rumour has it you've been inside so I'm wondering what for?

I belted someone who claimed he heard a rumor that I had been in jail.

That's pretty crazy. Really interesting that he'd be so willing to answer everyone's questions though. It's almost 3am and I'm struggling to stop myself from keeping on reading his replies ...

Yep, I was meant to be in bed half an hour ago. The guy writes so well, which not only makes it more readable, but easier to relate to, since he seems no less intelligent or educated than me. I don't think I will ever come close to jail but if somebody like that guy can wind up there, I guess just about anybody could.

My eyes popped out of my head when I read he'd studied at Sydney Uni. I mean, that just hits too close to home for me. Studied at UNSW and spent plenty of time at USYD.

I Didn't get a mattress when I locked up, had to sleep on the concrete slab.

Interesting comment about the story.

Other Dead Giveaways:

The Aryan Brotherhood does not have a significant presence in Michigan. There may be a few members or wannabe's but that's it.

There were not even close to the number of murders he claims in Michigan prisons. I knew it didn't sound right - looked it up and confirmed it.

Nobody calls the guards "screws" (At least not here). Everybody calls them CO's (Corrections officers).

You can't do phone banking from inside because you have to submit a list of up to 20 numbers that you might want to call - and they have to be approved. All calls are monitored and they have software that prevents 3-way calling or other tricks.

Nobody pronounces "Level 5" as "Level V". Inmates are ******ed but everyone knows what a ****ing roman numeral V is, and they sure as hell know what level prison they are in.

Rape almost never happens.

Almost every prison has exercise equipment (bought by the prisoners fund which is collected as a tax on prisoners store bought goods). Anything can be used as a weapon, but the administrators know that men are less antsy and violent when they have something to use their energy on so they always make sure to have weights since it makes the prison easier to run.

Nobody calls it "solitary" in Michigan. The hole is the hole. And nobody is sent to the hole to open up bed space lol. Convicts are kept in overcrowded county jails until a bed opens up for them in prison.

His story visiting day is complete fabrication. You can deny a visit very easily and the CO's don't give a shit one way or the other.

You don't get an allowance to spend on food. If you have a prison job you earn the meager few dollars to spend in the store, if you don't have a job you get nothing.

Candy isn't used as currency, tobacco and soap is.

Parole is 2 years, not 1. That's not something you would forget.

There is no "DA" in Michigan, its a prosecutor.

His story about the CO's "redialing" the phone for you is ****ing funny. Not only does it go completely against the way the phone system works, but you have to pay for your phone calls so that story gets double lulz.

I could go on and on and on but I can't read any further. Cliff Notes version - you've been trolled.

Further investigating shows it is almost definitely a troll.

A** champ.

They can send me there any time they like, but I doubt the classo board would allow it griff.

One time I was sitting at the train station for a few hours, didn't see a cop the entire time. Cop up 2 times, once to grab some food and another to hit the toilet. Was gone 5 minutes max both times, but both times, as soon as I get back, theres 2 cops asking people who owned the unattended bags, were on their walkie talkies with the other cops, etc.

The local Neo Nazi group was having a get together in the town I was living, so they blocked off every street for kilometres around, have cops on every single road junction and corner, even had what appeared to be a ****ing tactical response team. I've never seen anything like it, it was like a scene out of a movie.

The Politzei don't **** around over there, but that's pretty much Germany in a nutshell.
