Rookie watch: Who's burning and who's still learning
The Lions have generally gone for some slightly more mature bodies to fill out their list in the past year or two. In Barrett they got a player ready to contribute at AFL level, while Grewar and McInerney were both proven at lower levels. The rest are a mix of size and pace, with some difficult decisions come the end of the season.

Jake Barrett
The mature recruit from GWS has excelled in his first season. Elevated to the senior list, Barrett has played 11 games as a small forward, kicked nine goals and averaged five tackles.

UNSUNG HEROES — ROUND 21
Brisbane: Jake Barrett

On a night where the Lions showed they are going to be a forced to be reckoned with moving forward, 21-year-old Jake Barrett showed off his class in the forward 50. The former GWS Giants listed player was a constant threat in the second QClash of the season — making the most of his 14 disposals by kicking three goals. His pressure as a small forward was just as impressive, laying an equal team-high six tackles.

Dodongo just found out that Barrett was the one who came up with the idea of them putting their guernsey's on at the same time.
Conflicting reports; Fox's Saturday Stretch reported it was Jarrod Berry who came up with it after doing it with Vic Country at u/18 level.

Who knows, but love the idea and that the boys clearly have a tight bond one another and 'in it' together mentality.

MRP: Round 18

The Brisbane Lions have advised five players that they will not be offered a playing contract for the 2019 AFL season.

Rohan Bewick, Claye Beams, Tom Bell, Marco Paparone and Jake Barrett were informed by Lions Football staff earlier this morning.

General Manager of Football David Noble paid tribute to the players’ commitment during their time at the Lions.

“All have contributed to the growth and improvement of our Club both on and off the field,” Noble said.

“It is unfortunate to let great men go. We wish them well for what lies ahead in their future.

“The Club will continue to provide support and direction for the players in this transitional phase.”
