If Jake is worth $750k a year for 4 years he is worth pick 5. All the rest is BS
We are offering him a substantial amount of money because;

1. We can, our cap is probably in the best shape of any club, front loading contracts, 95% (can use 105% next year), no one on the veterans list. In theory we could frontload 1.5 mil in the first year if not more.

2. Its a strategy to get other clubs out of the way so he nominates us so we have sole leverage.

This does not make him worth pick 5. He is out of contract, form slump, and has said he intends to leave. If you really think he is worth pick 5 you might be Dodoro.

i count 700+k next year just on putting every qualified veteran on the veterans list. essentially covering most of carlisles salary next year before we start dipping into the cap or the increase in the cap by 100+k. given the amount of front ending we've done and really having no one to pay. i could see us coming up with another mill at a minimum. so we should be looking at 1.5 next year easily, more realistically 1.7-2m

Who sits around dreaming up this garbage, Billings leaving is up there with the pixies.
I think realistically our only chance of getting something half decent is if the Hawks, Tigers or Roos are willing to part with their firsts.
If its the Saints a couple of second rounders will be the best we can hope for and Id take that if offered.
Hartung is uncontracted.

Can people please stop suggesting Billings? Even I am laughing at such a ridiculous suggestion.
Let's just say that St Kilda would be more incompetent than Essendon if they actually traded Billings for Carlisle.

Common sense here.

I mean how many young to youngish mids do the Saints have with good footskills? = One = Billings. How many future elite mids = one = Billings.

Apart from Armo and Steven and the aged Joey the Saints lack quality mids.

Yes we have say Acres and Dunstan, but they are not in Billings leaugue.

He would not be going anywhere unless something huge was offererd for him and that is not JC!

PS: I have a BIG shiney $1 Coin. Anyone want to swap it for the SMALL $2 coin?

My position is the Bomber's should argue he is a restraint of trade with a "less than free agency" potential due to being incumbent to Victoria.

Thus his delisting should enable them to make an extra rookie selection as compensation. However, his comparative value in the market gives him an "unrealisable net worth" return. So, an upward adjustment is in order.

Thus, the Dons can select any player from FA, uncontracted or trade seeking player - offer a rookie selection + steak knives and still have pick 4 this year. The recipient club of that deal gets pick #4 at NEXT year's draft in addition to Carlisle + steak knives from Windy Hill.

Yeah baby...I can make it in this crazy world....

two first round picks? billings? this is why everyone hates essendon.

Carlisle is favorite to go in the draft imo
Happy to bet you on that keyboard warrior.
What a dumb post.
Essendon will posture and haggle but get the best for him.
We are on our knees and need to get good kids in.

You know, sometimes Essendon do over-value their players. But, you guys really undervalue our players. Gold Coast have egg on their face because of this 'Essendon are hard to trade with' notion. They refused pick 19 + Hooker for Caddy, then gave Caddy to Geelong the following year for pick 15 + 55. Looking back, that was waayy overs on our side.

Now, St Kilda supporters are suggesting 2 second rounders for Carlisle, 1 this year and next year? Get out of town.

How do you expect 2 second rounders, 1 in a shallow draft, to get it done? A first rounder must be in play for Carlisle.

Any of Heppell, Hurley or Hooker would be worth a second rounder and a fringe player to you guys. Carlisle was comparable to Hooker and Hurley in 2013 before they tried that forward thing. Has looked comfortable down back in the last few weeks.

We gave up our leading goal kicker in Crameri for pick 26! We were 'hard to deal with' because he was worth more than that. Lucky we got Zach Merrett for that pick.

We traded our best Ruckman in his prime while contracted for pick 17 and 36. Even that, we had to wait till the last day because we were 'hard to deal with' when no other club would accept their best ruckman in his prime for 17.

Now you want us to take unders again? If it means getting value for Carlisle, I hope this grinds out till the last hour of trade week.

Guys when does the wada verdict come out? Is it before or after trade period?

What chance is Carlisle of being suspended?
If that happened before trade how much would he be worth then?

These are legitimate questions.

Also does Carlisle have the option of walking to the club of his choice? In regards to the doping rule?

After trade week.
There's little chance of being suspended. ASADA couldn't even prove tb4 got to Australia let alone into 34 players.

the problem with this trade is that pick 5 is not an option. we still need elite mids and one will be available there at either parish or mathieson. even tucker. a second rounder alone is not enough. ordinarily you could use a player to sweeten the deal but who wants to go to essendon? no coach. wada suspension hanging. emotionally spent playing group. on the decline. some good young players but a long way behind most of the lower ladder developing clubs. you need picks to rebuild. I think this years and next years second is a fair offer. clubs rarely get face value for an ooc player. look at what we got for cripps and lynch who wanted out

Other option is to refuse to take two second rounders.

That leaves you with nothing and Carlisle in a Carlton jumper next year

Every club knows Essendon won't have him next season, they have to get something for him

If every club offers their version of steak knives, you'll really be left with no choice.

It's a shitty situation but there's no real way around it

Agree, take the two rounders and run unless one of the higher teams such as the Hawks are offering their first
