In regular situations he'd be worth at least a first rounder

Essendon don't have much wiggle room to play with now unfortunately. That's what happens when one of the clubs he's realistically a chance to get to has the first pick in the PSD.

Jake has no love for Essendon. If Essendon dick him around I can see him heading to the PSD.

Given the arrogance and stupidity of Essendon over the last decade expect them to stuff it up and get nothing or a lot less than they should as they will do a last minute deal to save face after knocking back better trade deals earlier.

You know, sometimes Essendon do over-value their players. But, you guys really undervalue our players. Gold Coast have egg on their face because of this 'Essendon are hard to trade with' notion. They refused pick 19 + Hooker for Caddy, then gave Caddy to Geelong the following year for pick 15 + 55. Looking back, that was waayy overs on our side.

Now, St Kilda supporters are suggesting 2 second rounders for Carlisle, 1 this year and next year? Get out of town.

How do you expect 2 second rounders, 1 in a shallow draft, to get it done? A first rounder must be in play for Carlisle.

Any of Heppell, Hurley or Hooker would be worth a second rounder and a fringe player to you guys. Carlisle was comparable to Hooker and Hurley in 2013 before they tried that forward thing. Has looked comfortable down back in the last few weeks.
there's pretty good reasons why nobody rates essendon players imo

Happy to bet you on that keyboard warrior.
What a dumb post.
Essendon will posture and haggle but get the best for him.
We are on our knees and need to get good kids in.
seems unlikely, everyone is fed up with Essendon and they've been run extremely poorly in recent seasons. Carlisle will play for CArlton next year

I'm not saying Carlisle is better than Jack Billings when i say this but here it goes...

If you took the games played from both Billings and Carlisle and made a combined top 10 Carlisle would feature 8/9 times out of 10.

Billings is full of potential and we all know he will fill it but please don't disrespect Carlisle as a player, He's a fantastic player and would make every single team in the comp much much better.

Is he worth a top 15 pick, Absolutely he is.

We gave up our leading goal kicker in Crameri for pick 26! We were 'hard to deal with' because he was worth more than that. Lucky we got Zach Merrett for that pick.

We traded our best Ruckman in his prime while contracted for pick 17 and 36. Even that, we had to wait till the last day because we were 'hard to deal with' when no other club would accept their best ruckman in his prime for 17.

Now you want us to take unders again? If it means getting value for Carlisle, I hope this grinds out till the last hour of trade week.
Unfortunately, the circumstances here likely mean that you are not going to receive market value for Carlisle. You just need to hope that the club can return the best value that they can get. If he nominates a single club, two 2nd rd picks or even worse, just an exchange of several picks that see you move up in the draft order might be the best offer on the table.
The only way I see EFC getting a 1st rd pick is if there is considerable interest and a bidding war ensues, or if a team in the latter part of the first rd are willing to take him and must trump other offers.
No rational fan is arguing that he isn't worth a 1st rd pick, just that due to these particular circumstances Essendon may not get offered one.
Oh, and rightly or wrongly, Essendon do have a HORRIBLE reputation in the exchange period. Barrett mentioned it again on Wednesday while on Triple M. The Chief more or less agreed with him. It seems fairly commonly accepted that this is the case. Whether they deserve their reputation is irrelevant. Reputations aren't always built on facts.

Asking for Jack Billings is like asking for Chad Wingard last year.

Utterly ridicilous.

We need to take what is on offer. Hopefully Jake continues to say he does not care where he goes so at least we can have a bidding war but without that we are going to get screwed and the earlier Dodoro works that out and the quicker the deal is done the better our reputation will be and more likely teams will be to deal with us.

Reputation, whatever.

Have you noticed that nobody at the club has mentioned Billings? Jay Clark has gone 2+2=potato and run with it. Should we ask? absolutely. Will we get? of course not.

Billings has only played 25 games compared to Carlisle's 85 games...

I'm not saying I don't rate Carlisle, I just think it's a little unfair to compare on that basis when there's a 60 game gap between them.

C'mon then spell out our horrid trade reputation for us then. Most of this is media hype from dipsticks like Damien Barrett
You might not like the man, but he gets it right more often than any other Footy journo in this town or any other.
As to your horrid reputation, it's not about us spelling it out for you, or explaining why or why not it is justified. What we think doesn't matter. The point is, many of the other clubs think they are very difficult to work with. Every journo who covers the exchange period reports the same thing. Chances are, when it is confirmed by so many sources that there is a fair bit of truth to it.

There is no way Jake the Snake is worth a top 10 pick. At the very most a pick in the 20's would be fair to EFC but probably not to the team giving the pick up.
A guy leaving for 700k deals is worth top 10. However, as has been said ad nauseum Essendon won't get what he's worth.

Personally I hope the club stands strong and accepts nothing than a terrible under value deal. That way he'll go to Carlton and never be an on field threat.

Oh and lol at WADA. Next to zero chance of getting a ban and even if they were to the previous 3 years would be taken into account and they'd get less than a month of Footy off.

WADA is just an attempt to find default to drop his value. It's pathetic and makes anyone who talks about it seem a little dull.

Dont agree, would rather take a 4th rounder from someone than let him go to Carlscum

Can you please explain the correlation between what a guy is paid and what pick he should be worth via trade? Simplistic way of looking at it

I thought it would be pretty obvious, but here goes.

Clubs operate under a salary cap so players are paid according to their value to the club. If a player is paid 700k he is rated in the top 1% of the league. So he is worth a top 10 pick.

He most likely has 8 good years of Footy to go, and could instantly improve a team that has the capacity to do so. By that I mean if he goes to Carlton they are still rubbish. However, if he was to go to Footscray, Boyd was to get his shit together and Libba's knee comes good they've taken a young exciting team with dash and flair and then just added structure to front and back and have increased their clearances. Boom!

Not sure what the salary cap is there but Carlisle with their first pick and Kruezer as FA and doogies are close to premiership threat, IMHO.

Exactly my point, Billings hasn't done anything yet, He's show great potential and I think he'll live up to that potential.

Put it this way If we wanted Billings and he wanted us and you asked for Carlisle I would laugh at you, And would expect Essendon to turn down that proposal quick smart.
