Lol so many Essendon posters hating on Two Planks because he was the first one to break the news of Carlisle leaving.

They keep focusing on how he said Carlisle would go to Carlton, when actually he said Carlisle PREFERS us and the big Saints offer changed the landscape.

You wouldn't think its that hard to understand...
Basically there were so many words spoken, people have to twist it to suit an irretrievable position.

If people started off being cautious with their posting in the first place, they wouldn't suffer a loss of face and look to drag others down so the damage isn't so great.

More stupid point scoring.

Carlton have opted not to up their offer so have effectively ruled themselves out. It's basically a late scratching so all bets are off.

The contest would have been matching offers and then seeing who he chose.
Still, I'm disappointed that Saints came up with basically a godfather offer to trump ours…Carlisle for 500k/3 years would have been a good first step in the rebuild.

EDIT: Could be a blessing in disguise…rather spend the money building up our midfield and forward line first, then trading in KPD's if need be like Hawthorn. KPD's are always cheaper than mids and forwards.

Tell me .... why were Carlton even in this contest with a 3 year offer about 200k less per year than the Saints? Shouldn't we have been eliminated first? Then ultimately eliminated even if we matched the offer because we are crap?

Seems to be some merit in what he was saying. It's not like people were lining up to throw Carlton in the mix and here we are ... top 2 with a shitty offer comparatively.

Reckon some are just trying to save face here. He obviously had some genuine information but the goalposts have shifted late.
It sounds like Carlton were in Carlisle's ear earlier in the year but St Kilda trumped everyone with a significantly longer, better paying deal that no one else could match. Carlton would be weary of expensive long term deals after the Daisy fiasco and Bulldogs couldn't get close to matching the offer after the Boyd deal. You'd think if Carlton were truly desperate for Carlisle they would have enough cash to accommodate with after Judd's departure (or could have traded a senior player) but they probably didn't want to be cutting it too close to the max of the cap. Saints have a ridiculous amount of cap space to burn over the next few years while the likes of Billings, Goddard, Dunstan, Acres etc are on their first and second contracts and we have very few players in their prime commanding big money.

I suspect the deal will be 24 and Ross for Carlisle. If Essendon kick up a stink and send him to the PSD I seriously doubt Brisbane or Gold Coast are going to make a 5 year, $3.5mil investment on a player who doesn't want to be there and Carlton have already been priced out of the race.

In all honestly I'm just glad it's saints because they are in a much better position to work out a deal than will benefit both clubs where as carlton really don't have much to offer.
Thats assuming Saints are willing to give up pick 5 or Billings though (which i doubt).

If Saints refuse to trade those 2 assets, then actually Carlton would be better for Essendon.

Yeah, would have been happy with that. We can't afford another Daisy contract though, not so much for the salary cap impact but for the message it sends to other players, especially Kreuzer who signed on for 2 years, with a guaranteed component less than 400k per year and options and incentives after a protracted stand off. His only baggage is 2 years of injury followed by a very solid half of season of proving himself again.

Yeah pretty much sums it up. Dam you guys, i really wanted Carlisle…just not for any more than 500k.
We surely would have the room but it would compromise our other contracts and deals we're working on.

I reckon you'd have to give up slightly more than 24 and Ross though, although i must admit i haven't seen much of Ross but don't really rate him from what i have seen.

The only way pick 5 could be involved in the trade is if there's a top 15 pick coming back our way. No chance in hell Billings will be traded

No, because I suspect saints are much more flexable weather it be future picks or players involved in a trade.

Carlton would have us take a terrible pick with no negotiation because of him being able to walk to PSD. So, it's much better that he chose saints.

I am joking with billings. I don't think he will want to be traded, nor will they trade him

Yeah its good we didn't budge over $500k.

500k for a good, versatile player for Carlisle would have been great though…nothing like Daisy's 625k, 4 year deal and given he had serious injuries

You are right about the Daisy deal. I believe we could fit Carlisle in on the bigger offer however but we don't want to keep having an imbalance in our payment structures. Bolton comes from an environment where everybody takes less to play together and build success, even to the point where they let one of the games best players go to maintain that.

I'm not even sure we had to match the Saints offer. I think 4-5 years at 600k might have got it done to be honest but hey, glad we figured out our line and didn't cross it.

24 and Ross wouldn't get close if Carlisle was contracted, but I think that will be our best offer. Maybe there could be a further swap of later/future picks but Essendon can either accept an early second rounder and a solid inside mid or get nothing. I think Ross will end up being a reliable 25 possession, 5 clearance per game mid but lacks the pace that our midfield needs going forward.

Or maybe we'll pull another surprise move and trade a player for a pick in the teens to trade for Carlisle.

Is the deal 5 or Billings? Seems like the saints are happy enough to let us choose. Some Saints fans won't be happy but that's the game.
Let you choose hahahaha boy are you in for a treat. Trout aint no push over

Itll look something like this

Opens up with carlisles manager making demands to trout, ending with essendon then making demands of him. Went well.

Manchester United, Juventus,
I agree 5 is overs but 23 is unders.
Is there any way of the Saints getting in a pick in between?
Or perhaps we can get a decent pick to back to the Saints for 5.
Would think both clubs will have some sleepless nights going over the permutations

Genuine question

Are there any Saints fans concerned that he appears to be nominating you specifically because of the $$$ ??
Well that's seems to be the consensus here.

You would hope that wherever he ends up it's because he completely embraces the whole club, not just see's it as a way to line his pockets.

Two weeks ago. Not the first time he said it either.
Was that before or after the media were speculating on Carlisle to St.Kilda?

Let's also ignore him saying Bellchambers wouldn't be offered a contract.

He obviously had some genuine information but the goalposts have shifted late.
Yeah, probably.

But let's not act like he was an oracle with a daily info feed from Jake himself.
