You are right about the Daisy deal. I believe we could fit Carlisle in on the bigger offer however but we don't want to keep having an imbalance in our payment structures. Bolton comes from an environment where everybody takes less to play together and build success, even to the point where they let one of the games best players go to maintain that.

I'm not even sure we had to match the Saints offer. I think 4-5 years at 600k might have got it done to be honest but hey, glad we figured out our line and didn't cross it.
I agree that it wouldn't have been smart for Carlton to match our offer. At the moment I think you need to build a new team from the draft for the next few years and then go after established players once you have a solid core of 10-12 good young players. I really think now is the time you should be trading out/letting go some of your older players to speed up the rebuild by getting good draft hauls. Letting go of Goddard, Dal Santo, McEvoy and Stanley has netted us Hickey, Longer, Dunstan and Goddard (amongst others) and I think Carlton should be doing something similar.

Genuine question

Are there any Saints fans concerned that he appears to be nominating you specifically because of the $$$ ??
Well that's seems to be the consensus here.

You would hope that wherever he ends up it's because he completely embraces the whole club, not just see's it as a way to line his pockets.
Don't be bitter. They opened their wallets. Money talks.

I think it's a bit about money and a bit about where each club is at. Carlton has just come to the decision this year that they need to have a rebuild of their list and get a lot more young kids in, Saints realised this 2 and a bit years ago and have made some big inroads towards our rebuild. 2013 we were 3rd last, 2014 we were dead last and now this year we're back up to 5th last, not a huge improvement on ladder position but the signs were there. Carlton probably have another year in the bottom 3/4 unless something drastic happens and we've probably got another year around 13th-10th. So Carlisle had the option of 500k a year for 3 years at a club still quite early in their rebuild or 650k a year for 5 years at a club about 2 years into a rebuild.

Thank you for your considered response. I didn't actually expect any

Was that before or after the media were speculating on Carlisle to St.Kilda?

Let's also ignore him saying Bellchambers wouldn't be offered a contract.

Yeah, probably.

But let's not act like he was an oracle with a daily info feed from Jake himself.
Not commenting on any other calls, just the Carlisle call.

My take is that the info had to be coming from close to the Carlisle camp to know where his preference might lie. He also couldn't possibly know that Carlton wouldn't stump up the cash unless the info was coming from the Carlton camp.

Possible that he had info from either side I guess but nobody could see the Saints offer coming ... that is hardly a black mark. How many saw the Dogs offer to Boyd coming last year?

Agree it would be a bit of a concern...St Kilda apparently offering quite a bit more than us in terms of $$$ and length of contract, yet took till now for Carlisle to pick them...does seem like its just for the contract as it was too good to refuse

imo, looking and observing from the outside:

Carlisle was disillusioned
Carlisle wanted to leave Essendon
Carlisle is a bit of a scatterbrain
Carlisle is a north of the city guy
Carlisle wants to play CHB
Carlisle wanted Carlton or Footscray
Footscray didn't really want Carlisle
StKilda needed a youngish but experienced high end CHB
Carlisle was perfect
Alan Richardson vouched for him at StKilda
StKilda decided to have a big crack
Carlisle likes Richo
Carlisle doesn't like Seaford
Carlisle hopes Carlton are as keen as the Saints now are
Carlton seem set on Weitering and Plowman and maybe even Tomlinson
Carlton may finally be starting to build a list the right way
Carlton don't match St Kildas offer by a fair way
Carlisle chooses the Club offering him big $'s,5 years, CHB, a coach he knows and likes already and a promising List.
StKilda get their man
Saints fans happy but a bit nervous
Carlton fans a bit disappointed but happy/hopeful their Club are no longer drongos
Bomber fans still on their knees

Good luck Jake and Saints.

Oh but Two Planks said Jake wanted Carlton and Carlton only. Hmmm. Shame he left the thread considering a lot of what he said turned out to be crap.

Hopefully 5 + Billings is done first day so we can get this over with.
First Two Planks was delusional...now Jobe Watson.

You will not get Pick 5 by itself let alone with Billings (Long Term contracted) as well.

You Carlton tools aren't fooling anybody

Enjoy the pick 9 you're getting for Henderson though. Cos that's definitely happening.
Keep your insults too yourself mate.
My personal opinion is that I do;t want Carlisle at the club because, as I have stated here already, he sooked for half a year, lost team discipline and then basically bailed on the club before the end of the season and then puts a high price on his head after asking for a trade.
WADA also clouds the issue - but hey we don't mention that kind of thing to Essendon fans now do we?
