5 is way overs for Carlisle considering he is under suspension cloud, out of contract and nominated the Saints. Would imagine St Kilda having to either trade a young player (unlikely) or procure a pick between 10-20 for him.

Will be interesting to see how the supposedly unreasonable at the trade table Dodoro handles this.

Saint should do something like this:

Trade pick 5 for Matt crouch, pick 13 and pick 50 from Adelaide
Trade pick 13 to Essendon for Carlisle

St Kilda go into the draft with pick 24, 42, 50 and have secured Matt crouch and Jake Carlisle
Essendon head into the draft with pick 4, 13, 23 and their late picks
Adelaide head into the draft with pick 5, Dangerfield compo pick, pick 32 and their late picks

What do we want with Matt Crouch?

Its playing out very similar to the Collingwood/Luke Ball occasion.
In that case StKilda stuck to their guns, and Collingwood simply took him with pick 30 ( their second rounder at the time). In hindsight none of the other clubs wanted to touch it.
I guess in that case though, there was still some optimism that Luke could be convinced to stay rather than risk the draft.
What?

It's not playing out at all, except in your head. Trade period hasn't even begun.

It wasn't a serious offer. Why would he take a pay cut?
500k for a player isn't a serious offer? Saints wanted their man and paying 200k more than us. I wouldn't be turning down that sort of coin either!

Carlton could have matched the offer, in which case he would have chosen us, but for a successful rebuild you need to have the salary cap structured and controlled. It is very un-Carlton like to not throw money around, so is why a lot of our supporters are impressed we didn't match St Kilda's offer.

Strictly football, St Kilda is the better choice over Carlton. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it is win/win/win for St Kilda, Jake and Carlton.

Essendon need to take the positive out of this and weed out the players that don't want to be there - you need to bring the passion back to your club. I don't think you will be happy for what you are going to get for Jake, and it will be unders for what he is worth, but you need to put this behind you and move on with new your new coach and freshen the playing list up. You'll find Carlton are going through the same thing.

Explain to me how you will get Carlisle
I don't know. My personal opinion thinks it'll be our 2nd rounder and a player (possibly hickey) or our 2nd rounder this year and next year.

Small chance we trade someone for a pick in the late teens then on trade that pick.'

I know Carlisle is worth more than that, but people have to realise it's not going to be a 'fair' trade. We hold all the cards as he's uncontracted, has quit their club and has nominated us.
