Who runs this stuff for the Saints?

I’m hoping not still the same blokes who refused to take the offered pick for Ball - who was barely in their best 22 – instead taking nothing and watching him beat them in a GF the next year.

#hardtodealwith

If Jake's direct opponent wins the Norm Smith a la Ball on Lenny, it's fair to say we got hammered.

If i was the StKilda list manager i'd be walking away from that suggestion.
How would you ( as Essendon's list manager ) respond to me walking away?
Why would Bains walk away if he has committed to taking Carlisle and has agreed on a contract with his manager.
He can keep walking until Gay Pride Round if he likes..
Worse that will happen is mediation.

And it's not like the saints win in that scenario anyway, Carlton will pick him up for nothing.

It's the old monopoly scenario, the worst trades are the ones you aren't involved in.

Correct. Essendon get screwed over there.
This is why Carlisle is still a chance to walk to the PSD. Carlisle is not worth pick #5, nor is he worth Billings. But Dodoro will no doubt ask for both (not together, although I wouldn't put it past him) and hold out until the last second. If a deal can't be made, JC has reportedly said that he's happy to go to the PSD.
Realistically, he is probably worth a mid to late 1st rounder based on his best form, but the Saints don't have that and should in no way entertain the idea of packaging pick #5. 2nd rounder plus steak knives should get the deal done.
Good luck Saints! We'll be crumbing the pack if it falls through.

Let's discuss pick 11 without using pick 5 ;)

........Hickey and 2nd rounder
TBH you're probably in the ballpark, may need to swap later picks to tie it up.
We need a ruckman and given our list age profile adding experienced players while sacrificing developing types certainly wont hurt us.

Hickey would be a great get for you guys with his tap work and contested grabs up forward, but, like Rhys Stanley he still has to prove he can play 20+ games per season in the ruck. 24 is basically starting age for a ruckman

Because....... the trade favours StKilda.
If you don't make a deal you will get nothing.

Terry Wallace suggestion seems fair enough.

@traderadio: Plough thinks the deal should happen like this:

Saints pick 5 -> Essendon
Carlisle -> Saints
Freeman -> Saints
Ess pick 23 -> Coll
Not that far off I reckon.

5 for Carlisle and Freeman aint bad.

Wish we could get more for Freeman, but I think Saints hold the cards.

Hows this ?

Tigers offer pick 12 and Lennon for Saints pick 5
Saints offer pick 12 to the bombers for Carlisle
Tigers use pick 5 this year and a first round pick next year to trump the pies for Treloar :p

It would be worth it just for the tears lol

Seriously, what would you do if the saints walked away from negotiations once Essendon started demanding pick 5? Take pick 24 and Ross/2016 2nd rounder or let him walk for free?
