I think Geelong just made their list a fair bit younger and have now replaced a lot of the older guys. They have done well by good luck. They had help that Dangerfield and Henderson wanted to come home, Selwood's brother was captain and that Gold Coast were happy to sell cheap. Its a difficult thing to replicate. Perhaps Geelong above them for the next 3-4 years while the current recruits are still going and then the Saints above Geelong for next 4-5 years. Geelong put themselves back in the finals for the next 3-4 years while the Saints are rising and will be a good side. So yes the Saints will be above Geelong for most of the next 8-10 years.
Fair assessment :thumbsu:

I think people would be surprised at how close Hawthorn are to sustaining more success for another 3-5 years. If they got Carlisle the only pieces to fill are the midfield pieces which whilst huge pieces to fill, as Geelong have just done with Dangerfield they can be addressed quickly.

Except for Hodge/Burgoyne/Mitchell/Gibson (Carlisle would be perfect to fill this piece) the core of Hawthorns team is still primed for a few years yet.

Take Hodge/Burgoyne/Mitchell/Gibson out and the Hawks have some money to spend as well.

Carlisle would be very nice for the Hawks.

Would look silly on the Saints if they don't end up getting him wouldn't it?
No skin off our nose. Nothing lost, nothing gained.

By the way, anyone calling our list management team amateurs should take a look at Melbourne. Bringing in Melksham for pick 25 and effectively giving away Toumpas for pick 50, LOL!

Saints trying to get him for a 13 pick downgrade and a 4th rounder.. Laughable..

Is this Ameet guy straight from bigfooty?
He's the guy that got Shane Savage, Luke Dunstan & Blake Acres for Ben McEvoy.

Rhys Stanley for pick 21

Billy Longer for pick 25.

Josh Bruce for pick 48.

Gibson would be easy to fill. Look for Stratton to take his role and somebody else to slide into Stratton's.
Easy to fill?

You're talking about Josh Gibson right? The guy who Hawks fans thing is one of the greatest backmen of his era? Should've been first player picked in the AA side the last decade etc?

Heh. Good player, but not irreplaceable I would have thought.

I love how Saints fans think Ameet has outperformed Dodoro this trade period, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Dodoro: Has negotiated several deals where Essendon has come out on top and are likely to get another done with Carlisle.
Bains: Has dithered around the negotiations and looks less and less likely to be keeping his job in 2016.
You do know Bains has been at the Saints doing trades for 4 or so years don't you? Not just this year because it involves Essendon.

He'll be keeping his job. Already COO in a short period of time.

Tell me about that killer deal you got for Ryder again? It was delicious.

Pelchen actually told the Saints you are spending to much money on the recruiting and need to spend more on development, in his first year at the Saints. Now he is not there and the Saints went El-Cheapo and got themselves a poor mans Dodoro. True story, just trolling with the last bit LOL

Ameet Bains: highly qualified contract lawyer, transformed St Kilda's list from salary cap disaster with rapidly ageing stars to something with some amount of potential
Adrain Dodoro: Started working for Essendon in 1980s, never left. Took over Essendon recruiting in mid 2000s, team gone nowhere.
