Logic says clubs aren't making promises on trade offers this time of year. Lots of opinions which turn into rumours getting around though. I very much doubt a club would offer pick 6 for an uncontracted Jake Carlisle.
Officially they're not making offers for obvious reasons.

Unofficially clubs are haggling from June.

Right now all I know is pick 6 is on the table, although I'm not sure on how reliable this source is as I hadn't met them until this year.
That goes against everything our coach and chief operating officer have said including recently. Less than three weeks ago Ameet Bains was quoted in an article saying the draft was still a focus and the club will endeavour to get another top 20 pick via a trade. Of course the club could be 'lying' or changed their mind but I'll still take their word against 3rd hand info written by an anonymous person on the Internet. No offence.

None taken. That's fair enough, I'm just passing on the information I've heard.

There's nothing on the table for anybody. Nobody's doing trade deals.

Carlisle is uncontracted. Any club who is interested will be trying to convince him to join them. Once they've done that, he'll request a trade and the club will work out a deal with Essendon.

The work for clubs to do is with Carlisle, not Essendon. Once that's done, they work a trade.

Naive to think so Bunk.

Not at all. With an uncontracted player by far the priority is to lock away the player. You can come up with all the great trade deals you like, if the player isn't interested he won't come.

Once a player nominates your club you work out a deal from there.

NO club will have approached Essemdon with a trade deal. Their phone calls are to JCs manager. They land him, then they'll work out a deal.

I highly doubt St Kilda and Essendon are already talking deals this early. First of all Carslile will have to want to go to the Saints before anyone even worries about that, and I doubt he's already decided that.

Secondly, Saints won't give up pick 6 (more likely 5) for him. Especially when mids are out number 1 priority and there will be a couple of quality ones to take with that pick. Not to mention Carsliles poor form of late and the WADA thing hanging over his head.

I think he can turn it around and become a good player again, but the best Essendon can expect from the Saints is a second rounder and a fringe player.

And let's not waste our time with talk of "fringe" (ie dud) players.

Every time a club is after a player their supporters throw up the old second/third round pick with some dud player (Essendon supporters do it all the time) as if it's attractive. It doesn't happen when good players are involved. You don't get quality for shit. It only happens when it's a good player from a top club who genuinely can't get a game.

They'd get a deal done especially with future draft picks now available.

Let's face it. Fair trades rarely get done because the player nominates a club and the club can only deal on what assets they have.

Pick 6 is overs. I can't recall an uncontracted player being traded for a pick that high since Judd - who was a Brownlow medalist and premiership winning captain. Judd and Carlisle are miles apart.

Pick 25 is clear unders but that's St Kilda's next pick so that naturally becomes part of the trade but obviously with something else such as another pick or a player. That player isn't going to be a contracted gun. It's more than likely going to be an expendable type that Essendon like.

I know most St Kilda fans won't like it but if we keep pick 6 and grab someone like Mathieson (inside mid) then Jobe's cousin (former pick 25 draftee) becomes expendable IMO. The other name that's been thrown up is Tom Hickey who may appeal to Essendon.

Hopefully a good deal but after the last couple of years I'm holding my breath we'll get shafted again.

Don't expect we'll get upfront value for Carlisle as that's just what happens when a player leaves your club.

However I don't think dud players will be part of the deal because it just never happens. Quality + shit does not = more quality.

It was the same last year. All trade week we heard Ryder for pick 17 + Butcher and Essendon were stupid for not taking it.

In the end Port did what everybody knew they would do and changed it to 17 + 36 and the deal was done. It still wasn't great for Ryder I think but a spud like John Butcher was never going to be involved in such a trade.

In fact I think the deal was the real spur for future pick trading as both clubs said they'd have immediately accepted pick 17 + 2015 Round 1 pick for Ryder.

If Carlisle wants to go to another club they'll work something out in the ballpark of value.

Its probably way to early to be confident on specifics, I agree that its most likely everyone is working on getting Carlisle committed to a club first before working out the trade.

But something that might work (although its a little complex) is

Saints First, Third and Tom Hickey for

Bombers First (assuming its slightly better than saints) and Carlisle.

This would give the saints potentially pick 3 or 4 instead of 5 which would allow us to go after Darcy Parish (who fits our needs) and get Carlisle who helps our backs.

Bombers get a high quality ruck man who can definitely be a #1 ruck, still have a high first round pick (probably 5 or 6) and an extra 3rd round pick.

Depending on who the Dons want with their first, it may not be a terrible deal and allows the Saints to chase the best mid in the draft (which is what we need)

The team losing the most valued player in the deal usually want to improve their draft position - so no, we are not upgrading our first pick.

That's fair and I agree they want to improve their draft position (overall) so it may be some combo, could even see them getting our second which would give them 5/6, 22ish and 24ish vs 4 and 22ish
