Don't expect we'll get upfront value for Carlisle as that's just what happens when a player leaves your club.

However I don't think dud players will be part of the deal because it just never happens. Quality + shit does not = more quality.

It was the same last year. All trade week we heard Ryder for pick 17 + Butcher and Essendon were stupid for not taking it.

In the end Port did what everybody knew they would do and changed it to 17 + 36 and the deal was done. It still wasn't great for Ryder I think but a spud like John Butcher was never going to be involved in such a trade.

In fact I think the deal was the real spur for future pick trading as both clubs said they'd have immediately accepted pick 17 + 2015 Round 1 pick for Ryder.

If Carlisle wants to go to another club they'll work something out in the ballpark of value.
Crisp was a fringe player included as part of the Beams trade. Shane Savage the year before in the McEvoy trade.

Why is Geelong not in the discussion here?

2015 Round 1 pick + either of fringe player (eg. Smedts, Kersten) or their 2016 Round 2 pick
In exchange for
Carlisle + 2015 Round 2 pick from Bombers

More at risk for the cats given the WADA overhang (and hence reason for cats giving their 2016 Rd 2 pick - just in case the guy can't play for another 12 months or so)

Its probably way to early to be confident on specifics, I agree that its most likely everyone is working on getting Carlisle committed to a club first before working out the trade.

But something that might work (although its a little complex) is

Saints First, Third and Tom Hickey for

Bombers First (assuming its slightly better than saints) and Carlisle.

This would give the saints potentially pick 3 or 4 instead of 5 which would allow us to go after Darcy Parish (who fits our needs) and get Carlisle who helps our backs.

Bombers get a high quality ruck man who can definitely be a #1 ruck, still have a high first round pick (probably 5 or 6) and an extra 3rd round pick.

Depending on who the Dons want with their first, it may not be a terrible deal and allows the Saints to chase the best mid in the draft (which is what we need)
haha

Because Geelong prefer Henderson. On top of that, they want Dangerfield and Selwood.

If Carlisle leaves, it will only be to Carlton. Discussions have been had. Only way he doesn't go there is if he changes his mind. Essendon will want him to as they won't be happy with what Carlton offer.

Yeah apparently the Cattery are going to get Selwood, Henderson, Dangerfield and Carlisle in one trade period...all for $600k+ and for 2nd round picks.

Pretty sure that's called weighing up the options and making a decision, fairly logical place for him to be at this stage of the discussion.

Oh please. Wasn't suggesting the cats go after both Henderson and Carlisle at the same time (what for?!), but Carlisle instead of Henderson. Given both Danger and Selwood are restricted free agents, no trade of "second round picks" involved on either of these (unless one of their clubs thinks they can get better than the compo pick - for Danger, maybe, Selwood, no). Nobody suggesting anything comes for free around here, well, except for some Carlton posters suggesting it will be Carlisle via the PSD......

Who says Geelong prefer Henderson now that Carlisle is well and truly in play? Danger and Selwood solving different issues, so appreciate it if you are suggesting cap restraints, but imagine Carlisle only a little higher than Henderson, with the WADA piece being a big question mark and therefore some logical impact on contract value.

Geelong must have a bigger salary cap then everybody else in the league if they believe they will get all these players haha.

Because all reports are Geelong want Henderson instead, and that is likely to get done.

Carlisle is a very good player but the risk of a WADA ban makes him a very risky trade proposition.

You know it ...

I know it ...

Everybody knows it ...

There is only one Melbourne based club that doesn't have to roll the WADA dice ...

Perfect KPF for Carlton. Went to ground in a one on one contest with a smaller opponent. Didn't hold his head high at the other end in a contest with McCarthy. WADA makes it a loss if we lose Henderson and bring in Carlisle. Meh.
What I don't understand is that we already have a Henderson replacement at the club in Jaksch. Unless we can get Carlisle in the PSD then I do not want.

Not a fan General ?

Can't see it as a loss if we get him for free ...
