Right. So why would they include Hickey?
Modern AFL Clubs have a modern view of relatively fair trading. The club Carlisle chooses will offer you a reasonable but unders trade.

That's how 17 clubs operate in trade month.

You'll get a reasonable trade for Carlisle but it will be unders because Essendon hold a pair of deuces...face up.

so your first and second rounder for ryder. in the hickey and pick 25 trade you are essentially getting two 2nd rounders. its too much for the an out of contract carlisle who's in a long patch of poor form and with a ban over his head. we'd want something back with that deal
I know Essendon will be bent over but if you do get him you likely be meeting his asking price of 700k. That says to me he is worth quite a lot.

Its been mentioned before re:Ryder, GWS offered pick 4 late & port gave up all they could. They also said they would have given 2 first round picks if available which all teams now have the ability to do.

contract price does not equate to draft picks/trade value unless its free agent compensation which he is not

could have, should have, would have. ryder didnt want to go to GWS. they got what they could get. same will happen again if you dont sign him

Hard not to be patronizing when you've stuck a fork in a 20 year old KP player whilst building up a dud like Lee.
What pick was that again and he's 4 years older than Jaksch for starters..................FFS? :)

Your club was after Jaksch hard but you lost out, hence the sour grapes. At least be honest.
Show me where I've built up Lee.

Tell me which of my points are false, rather than inventing false motives.

I think Harks and I got defensive about the Jaksch comment. Good kid who most on our board think will clearly make it.

Anyways, what chance do you guys think you are of securing Carlisle?

WADA is the game changer .
Will any club be willing to take the risk and trade a first rounder ?
Yep, that is the big question right there and even if the recruiting department from a club like us wanted to trade our first for him there is every chance our board would step and say "hell-to-the-no".

Doubt that'll happen. We won't be sending anything else to St Kilda. If that affects what we get, so be it.

But I'm not sure what we'd send - we won't be trading any quality picks I don't think, and I'm not sure which of our players would be involved.

I know this is the part of the season where everybody plays hard ball, but come one to all the saints supporters who wouldn't trade our 2nd + Hickey. I'd think the club would do that in a heart beat, Carlisle is a really good player. I'd do a 2nd and One of Hickey, Ross or Templeton, or our 2nd 2016, and I would still consider that unders. If Essendon could get their hands on a pick between 15-20, I'd do 6 for Carlisle and that pick. If he did pick StKilda, first off it'd be great for our club, but we would also have to except that we would have to give a little up for him

There's talk that we're in the race. Only emerged in the last week. The word is our 2nd rounder plus a steak knives if need be. First pick not on the table (quite rightly too) apparently.

Someone in the know on another site claims you boys are the front runners.

I'm interested at our 2nd rounder, but not at our first. Have some concerns over his personality, but obvious extenuating circumstances.

Anything less than pick 10 for Carlisle is nothing short of ridiculous. Not to mention the fact he's unlikely to go anywhere but a club that looks like having some success sometime soon. Which ain't St Kilda. You'll have a slight pickle when Riewoldt, Fisher, Gilbert and Dempster retire.

He's out of contract, so don't expect full value.

Are you absolutely livid at the Judd trade? I mean christ, he certainly did make sure you paid and then some.

Forcing him to the PSD and trading for Brisbane's first pick in it haha. There'd be nothing better than stumping Carlton twice in two years.
You're funny. Tell me how Brisbane give up pick 1 in a psd to you??? You now have my attention. Lol

I'm dreaming lol. But really, I think the main issue is money. If you blokes are offering say 600k, I think we'll come up trumps due to a fair amount of cap space. And Carlton have a habit of over paying certain players haha.

This is entirely dependent on the criteria for Jake's decision. If it's money then we may be able to match although I'm not sure who's taking up Carlton's cap space at the minute. If it's playing somewhere other than EFC that's most important we could pay him $3M and it wouldn't matter.

Well dreamer. I'd prefer to pay Judd, Warnock (when there was plenty of clubs interested in him), Carrazzo, Thomas etc bigger money than invest it into Cooney, Goddard (the biggest sook in afl), Guilt, Choppy and I'm sure I'm missing a few.

Anyways, as previously stated, I hope to hell Essendon do play hard ball. Dodo always does.

Trading to get a psd... That's probably one of the funniests things I've heard on here. Thanks for the laugh

If his heart was set in going then yeah money wouldn't matter a stuff. But from what it sounds like is that their just taking their time negotiating a contract.
Blokes like Yarran, Thomas, Gibbs, Murphy, Kreuzer and Co would be taking a fair chunk I'd imagine.
