Triple M Footy’s Damian Barrett has rubbished
Jake Carlisle’s claim that the stresses of the
Essendon doping scandal led him to use recreational drugs.
A video of Carlisle emerged on social media last October showing him snorting a white powder.
He was subsequently suspended for the first two matches of this season by his new club St Kilda (a ban that has been superseded by the year-long ban he received from the Court of Arbitration for Sport in January) and his contract was revised heavily.
The Age reported on Monday that Carlisle’s lawyers made a link between the drawn-out Essendon saga and Carlisle’s off-season drug use.
But Purple was having none of that.
“I don’t think I’ve heard anything more ridiculous,” Damo told
Triple M’s Rush Houron Monday.
“I’m not one to naturally defend Essendon on any aspect of this case but for Carlisle to say that, ‘I took illicit drugs based upon Essendon giving me potentially performance-enhancing ones,’ it’s a pretty long bow as far as I see.
“He’s entitled to claim legally but I wouldn’t be using that as a reason when it’s all said and done, I reckon they’ve got enough to deal with and just deal with the facts of the matter and they’re as bleak as they can be anyway from an Essendon perspective.”
Purple also told JB and Billy that Essendon are about to be hit by at least 34 legal cases from past and present players arising from their ill-fated 2011-12 supplement program.
