Haha.. comparing Edwards to Cloke is Bay 13 material. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Cameron has a better season than his brother in 2009.

LOL :D

I did actually mean Cam. Come on, its the cricket season, give me a break.

Edwards is still very young and some players just take longer than others to fulfill their potential. I think it is still a bit to early to judge him. He is almost 2 years exactly younger than Russell, and he isn't setting the game alight either.

He's just gotta throw any bullshit inhibitions out the window and roll the ****ing dice. I want to see him hit some packs, take some marks and kick some ****ing goals.

Im with you :thumbsu:......but maybe we will have to wait until he is playing in the amateurs

Edwards seems to move best as a leading FF type, so untill Fev is gone he'll struggle for game time IMO...problem being he probably be delisted by then...unless of coarse he can be of value elsewhere.

Does anyone who watches alot of VFL know if he has ever been used in the backline? He certainly has the pace and agility to be tried there.

Under statement of the year.

He doesn't seem to have too many tricks besides a lead up forward and we have the best one in the comp.

We need a dynamic 193cm key forward who leads up dragging defenders with him but also can take contested marks deep in the forward line. Edwards can't take contested marks with his lack of height. Our forward line needs contested marking ability and I think only Kreuzer and Cloke can provide this, although it is a tough ask and highlights the need for key forwards to be addressed in future drafts...however this will be difficult with the changes to the draft age and Gold Coast getting plenty of picks.

Would be nice if with our first pick next year there's a key forward available equivalent to Mitch Brown/Mitch Brown/Josh Kennedy/Lachlan Henderson.

Our forward line works well when we win the ball out of the middle and kick it straight into the forward line where there are mainly one on one contests but if we win the ball in the back half or cause a turnover through the middle our forward line is so lacking in variety that we really struggle. Yarran will provide plenty of variety but it's going to take time.

I don't want to be seen to be 'picky', but at 192cm Edwards doesn't really lack height at all. He weighed in at 89kg at the start of 2008. That is something he needs to work on, is building up some bulk. Ideally he should be looking to build up to the mid 90kgs to make him a bit more imposing.

Jake has barely changed in muscle and weight over the past 2 years.
3 years ago I went to pre season several times and physically he has barely changed since then.

Either he struggling to add more bulk or the club does not see it as whaT HE NEEDS

If Jake Edwards is going to cry because he thinks he deserves a spot then God help me....get rid of him ASAP.

If he is willing to put in the work to become that tallish forward pocket we need then patience is required.

Same goes for Hartlett.

Edwards/Hartlett need to become dangerous forwards.

They need to become players that don't let their opponents run off them.

Have a look at the Hawks......Buddy, Roughead and Rioli

How dangerous are these guys?

They keep their direct opponents close to goal which

  1. Reduces the rebounding ability of the team they play against
  2. Creates space in that zone between the middle of the ground and half forward
With our midfield this is exactly what we need.....we need that space for our damaging midfield to exploit......we need our mids to be able to get the ball forward quickly and rely on our forwards to put on scoreboard pressure. We need our half forwards to push up into that space and provide transitionary targets.

We need our mids to concentrate on pushing back when we don't have the ball rather than having to push forward to contribute continually to the score we accumulate.

If they have to continually push forward then the fatigue factor will not allow them to keep pushing back and helping out our defenders.

We need Edwards or Hartlett to be that 3rd option.

Scarlett, Milburn and Taylor provided no rebound in the Grand Final because they were continually forced to stay close to goal and mind their opponents. Geelong's forward line was ordinary and the Hawthorn midfield was able to continuously push back because they could rely on their forwards to score.

Yarran will be our dangerous forward with Houlihan that should keep one defender close to goal.......perhaps 2 if they both can fit both of them into the team. Fevola will obviously get the best defender. Kreuzer's fitness will be a key in the forward line as he may be the push up CHF we need.

Betts/Walker will be our push up half forwards with a better fitness base than Yarran.

Edwards and Hartlett must seize their opportunities and work their butts off or someone else will gladly usurp them and take the glory they have the opportunity of experiencing right now.

Got news for you mate

Hartlett and Edwards are nowhere in the class of either buddy or Roughy.

Its time to move on and look elsewhere.

We dont need to be a Dawks clone to win a flag........they didnt copy the Cats to win a flag....they played to the strengths of their own list

They will get a game some time this season and once there they've got to show something. Simple as that. Doesn't matter how many goals they get in the Ants, if they can't bring not just the same level but step up a notch then they don't deserve to be around much longer.

You wouldn't even group the two of them with a Boyle, because Boyle's shown enough to show that he'll be a decent player but won't make it in the starting 22. Harts and Jake are supposed be decent enough yet they can't maintain a spot in a forward line that's been relatively weak.

He doesn't take contested marks though...he's one dimensional. We already have the best man for that job. I wish he could crash packs/take contested marks but he's unable to do this.

If you are talking about Hartlett I disagree.

He reahed his greatest playing weight in his 2nd season but was ordered to lose weight to try and reduce his hammy injuries.

He has also shown that he is basically on train tracks with very poor lateral movement.

Give MK time, he will be a gun fwd, and fingers crossed succession planning for Fev is our highest priority next draft

Thing with Hartlett he hasn'y got his confience up. If he confience go up you will see injures go down and more senior footy go up:thumbsu:
