Jake Kolo 150

Desperate defender, you know what he is going to deliver every game, and even this limited vision shows his expertise on both KF and medium /small forwards.
Definitely when he is at his best. One of those guys you don't want thinking too much. :)

I have no problem with him in the side, as long as he is within his envelope.

I don’t reckon his last 50 have been that bad but he still has his moments

I mean compared to the 100 before that

If we are to be a serious threat this year this should be his last game for the season.
Can't be going into finals knowing that he will give away 1-3 goals through brain farts

Great example of why this player has made 150
Ironically his 100 was v Saints

Definition of underrated and maligned. Key cog in our stiff defence

As that video montage clearly shows, AFL-standard defender can defend. Who would have thought? Clips like that one are a far better explanation than 'handy suds' for why he gets a gig week on week in this team.

Kudos to Kolo for getting his job done just about every week. His limitations with ball in hand are obvious. But 149 games in a team that's played in five PF's and a GF since his arrival tells you that he is playing a valued role in the defensive set-up of a serially contending team.

Well done, #8. A markedly better player than his myopic detractors on here will ever acknowledge. And at pick 41, he's already almost double the career games average for players taken in the pick 31-50 bracket.

IWWT.

Highlights clips can make anyone look good, no club could afford to keep a list together that was only stars. He does his job most of the time.

Hats off to this guy. 150 games and been in a winning team for the majority of them. His more fancied twin managed 80 odd games with nothing like that win ratio. To hold his place in a winning team - he must be doing something right.

I've always had a soft spot for Kolo and desperately wanted him to do well, despite getting infuriated with him at times (almost exclusively in finals). Ball in dispute he's great, ball in hand he is not.

We haven't always had the best mix of players around him to ensure his strengths aren't overweighed by his faulty ball use. When you add skill, pace (of mind as much as foot) and athleticism around him you realise what a valuable role he does play.

Perhaps one disappointment is he started off so well that there hasn't seemed to be much progression or evolution in his game. The finals thing, we can just as easily blame poor match ups (going to speedy smalls or Dusty type dynamos) or midfield getting buried.

He can't act as a rock of Gibraltar under immense pressure, but neither can most. When the mids are doing their job, I feel Kolo more than holds up his end of the bargain and rarely gets beaten.

Hats off to you Kolo. Not everyone can star but you've shown that hard work and persistence can forge a very decent AFL career.

Absolutely shattered they didn't include every single goal he's kicked. Would only have added another 4-5 seconds to the video.

In all seriousness, Congrats on 150. Does the job week in week out.
They ALL came after his 100th game!

This is a surprise to me have never really thought of him as a solid first 22 player.
you don't need to think about it; as Kolo said himself, this has come about very quickly. He is indeed a lock in our 22.

We've covered the negatives but on the flip side, how often is his man an influential presence on the game? Most of my recollections are dynamic mids rotating forward, notably the unstoppable Martin in that GF. It's questionable whether anyone could have kept him on a leash in that match though.

Kolo on a tall or most mid sized forwards holds the line well. Mismatches against real live wires with pace to burn, that's when he's been exposed. Hard to hold that against him as it's not who we should be using him to negate.

Look, I don't think anyone is saying that he can't defend. He's a defensively solid player.

The frustration is more so that for years, we only had two players in defence who weren't just dour lockdown types - Tuohy, and Stewart. That's poor by AFL standards. Now at least, with Atkins swapped for Duncan, De Koning in for Henderson, and Bews actually finding some more of the ball, we can cover Kolo's limited output with ball in hand.

My firm belief is that genuinely good sides can carry one specialised but limited "role player" in each part of the ground at most. We have Kolo in the back fifty, Atkins in the middle, and Rohan up forward. That'll do.

Good negating defender who probably has had his career best year. Credit to him for getting the most out of himself as many many players don't do that.... but his both willingness and inability to take that 15-20m diagonal kick in boards at half back is going to give me a brain aneurysm
