Its been said Millenials are the most self-centered generation humanity's produced... is this a touch unfair?

Let's study the example of Jake Lever, who's now publicly laying the groundwork for backing out of participating in an AFL hub because he happens to have a young child. Jake, at the grand old age of 24 has been bleeding Melbourne for $800k each past two seasons, in which he played 8 and 11 underwhelming games. Most folks in that position not born this century might feel a sense of obligation, even guilt at failing to deliver on what they've been paid. Not Jake though! Having a young child is all the excuse he needs since apparently nannies either no longer exist or $800k plus whatever his wife earns isn't enough to afford one.

What's baffling is how past generations of Aussie men managed to build our infrastructure, respond to natural disasters & fight overseas wars in such circumstances - were their children born older? Was society less tolerant of them ignoring responsibilities? Did they not join the top 0.5% of earners by kicking a leather ball!?

Was one of the most promising key position players in the comp when he started out. Shame to see him waste his career like this.

Superb skills & athleticism balanced out by being a complete and utter peaheart.

Jake is the Tex Walker of AFL defenders. :D

Wouldn't you try any excuse to try and avoid the embarrassment of playing for Melbourne this season?

This.
The Silverspooners are a steaming pile of pigs excrement.

OP seems to have some weird Stockholm syndrome with them.
Probably a big 'Merge' voter.

I'm not 100% sure that personification is the right term here, since millennial is describing the facets of a human being. Interesting

While I sympathise with him as a parent, the fact is that it's part of his job, hes getting paid shitloads to do it, and if he's not committed to helping the club achieve our next premiership (no snickering back there) he can piss off.
As Chris Fagan said - " Suck it up"

I've no doubt most Melbourne fans see it similarly.

They say advertisty reveals the true character of a man.

Fair enough some of these flogs don't want to play in hubs, but then do the right thing and hand back your fat pay packet and kindly delist yourself and retire. Plenty of other blokes who'd be champing at the bit to be in their position, hubs or no. Too many Jack Riewoldts in the league at present who 'just love footy' but for some reason don't want to play the darn sport. Begone flogs.

Hasn't been doing his job for years why start now?

Year 3 of 4 of paying him $800k+

A lot of money for a defender who can't lockdown the opposition's best forward and never been best on ground
If the AFL rules clubs can nullify the contract of any player who refuses to join a hub just imagine how quick he'll sign up. Probably first bloke on the bus!

Players whinged and whined at having to take a haircut in salary to save the code. Forced league to take out a line of credit bigger than the state budget just to keep clubs off the breadline. Players at Jake Lever’s two clubs complaining about being asked to run up too many hills during a preseason camp.

the sense of entitlement with this generation is just staggering

I was brought up with some fairly old fashioned and clearly outdated principles:
- Save your money
- The world never gives you anything for free
- Plan for the future
- Service to others

It's actually really hard work doing all of this, and so I'd like to thank Millennials and Labor voters everywhere for doing their best to ensure that I can sit on my arse and let others look after me for the next 30 years (if I'm lucky).

Most would agree that a combo of being a Victorian millennial would produce a super-pussy of epic proportions.

People from Perth are not qualified to comment on millenials. It will be at least another 10 years before Perth reaches the point in societal change that spawns the creatures that we have badged millenials.

For the rest of WA, somewhere around 2235.

I'd be more embarrassed about not beating us in over 600 days

Hasn't been doing his job for years why start now?
Partially because he's not that good as a defender, and partially because hes been recovering from an ACL
