If any of you have bid at an auction you'll know that the serious buyers emerg in the final seconds. A lot of clubs want Lever and there's still 3 weeks to go...
Last time I checked a house doesn't get the choice who buys it. This isn't an auction, as much as people assume the highest bidder will win.

Soft spot for Brisbane
2 firsts for an AA third tall defender? We can give him the coin because the cap isn't at all stretched, but no way in hell do we give up real all of our draft capital.

If Adelaide have mismanaged their payments badly enough to let go an AA defender, then they are going to get burnt, no?
We have a lot of fantastic players who need to be paid. You have very few.

We require appropriate value for Lever if you want us to facilitate him getting to your club. If you can't make that happen, stop making promises to Lever.

Pretty certain you aren't in charge of what fair value is. Why bother getting so stroppy when the trade period hasn't even started yet.

2 firsts seems steep though, he isn't an AA quality mid or KF, some would argue he isn't a KPP at all but i disagree with that as i think he'll make a very good KB as his strength develops, but 2 firsts?

IMO a fair trade would be Lever and your first pick (this year) for Melbourne's 2017/18 first rounders.

Yeah I'm worriedly getting that feeling.

If that is the case then I will have lost a bit of respect. No need to come out and deny it, just say "look I'm not going to discuss media speculations" it's that easy.
It might have been one of those ones where he loop holed on word play. Like he might have never met with Melbourne officials but he Skyped with him or some crap. I suppose he would have to meet with or talk with people before the trade period but I agree you would rather him say nothing.

When Tom Scully promised our dying president he would be a one club player that was as low as a snakes belly

Yeah I gotta say I lost all respect for him when that happened, deplorable!
Still think you're better off as a club for trading him, especially given the pay he was demanding.

Coincidentally it's funny you raise him given the whole 2 first rounders for Jake Lever claims going around at the moment.

At the time I was more of an advocate for Trengove getting the money that scully was on because I didn't think he was that good a player TBH you could see early his kicking wasn't great nor his contested footy. Now he has become a good player but not the player GWS thought they were getting.

I think it's pretty clear the AFL gave us 2 first rounders because he was a number one pick taken from us when we needed him the most.

You should have heard the way Treloar was talking about his love for GWS before he was traded. Public statements in the media really mean nothing unless it's an actual commitment, by now Jake will have already decided where he's going to be next year, and if it was Adelaide then he would have announced it by now.

Whether he is at Melbourne or another Victorian club I just can't imagine Lever stating at Adelaide now. Would be extremely surprised if he committed to them now. Even a flag probably won't change his mind. No doubt it's already made up.

Interesting to see Barrett's comments in Sliding Doors today about the trade.

"the real fun only begins now. Actually landing Jake Lever deal is going to test resolve and relationships, as he will be coming in at big cost."

I wonder if the resolve and relationships he is referring to are Players at Melbourne, or between the clubs.
If it is players, this is what I was angling at about bringing in a guy on a premium salary at the cost others egos and potential pay increases

Probably hinting at us sending a few players out the door.

After Jake said "it didn't happen" McClure turned around and said there was no denial from the AFC, MFC, any Melbourne players or Lever's management. The only denial was Jake - who has the most interest in it being untrue.
