Allowing this to go through as part of the negotiations is as big an embarrassment for him as hirdys wage is to Vlad.

Surely Long will get into the ear of Sheedy and he can pull a few strings at GWS to get us an early 2nd round pick for something not too expensive ... or perhaps they can trade him as a zoned player like Anderson ... or don't we have that end of round 1 pick?

Is there a chance that Long would go first round? maybe but unlikely based on performance so far.. especially as other clubs would be aware he would want to play at EFC.. so good chance we could get him with that compo pick if we wanted him anyway.

Fuss about nothing. No mention by any of the draft guru's and Emma Quayle wrote an article last week about F/S possibilities for 2014/15. No mention of Long in Emma's article. The one to keep an eye on is Dean Wallis's son who is eligible in 2015. We need to bring Wallis back into the fold.

Going by the picture on the article, he looks about 60kg. If he is anything like his dad, and that skinny, he wouldn't be any chance to play AFL in 2015 anyway, so delaying his nomination for the draft wouldn't be shortening his career in any way.
I'm thinking Jake nominating in 2015 would be a good fit for all concerned.

I didn't realise our pick is before any 1st round compensation picks. How generous of the AFL. Sounds like this Father/Son business wasn't thought of last year and the AFL has now decided that we are also barred from f/S picks

Also if any club will steal Long from us it'd be Hawthorn. The audacity of taking Cyril who was clearly going to Essendon with 2nd round pick. Essendon boy through and through, I chatted to him on the ground at the Long walk in 09 and he told me he still barracked for the bombers! Essendon family and was promised as a 9 year old that he'd be at Essendon.

Still not happy (especially seeing Myers OOBOTF led to inside 50 which Cyril snaffled last week).

To me the article, talking about how important his studies to him this year are, it sounds like we're going to make sure recruiters don't get that much of a look at him this year and laying reasonable justification in advance to avoid too much scrutiny when we pick up in R4.
Will probably play mostly APS. Hopefully well, but not too well.

It seems to be an academic family. His brother was studying at Melbourne University whilst playing for essendon.

Seems to me that things like this will be the 'bending the rules' of the future for clubs. find out if you have a legit f/s player coming through, then tell him to either have a year off or not perform to a high standard in the TAC cup, then take him with a 4th rounder...
