All depends on how he develops.

Currently he is rated as a midfielder or utility, but... he has great explosive speed (was enormous pre-leg injury) and very good hands... which are the attributes you want in a great FF (Bazza was like that).

If he puts on 5kgs more, then he'll be around a hundred, which I doubt would let him play midfield.

Fevola is 191cm (3cm shorter than Stringer), and weighed around 100kg for most of his career...

There's more to likening players than just size and weight (although it's a useful place to start).
Consider this:
  • Hahn was pick 30-something (which was about right) while Stringer was rated 1-3 before he broke his leg. So on junior form Stringer is a gun. Hahn wasn't.
  • Stringer supposedly has (or had?) "explosive speed" as noted above which I don't think you could say about Hahn.
  • Stringer has that extra touch of self-belief (some call it "that gleam in the eye") that only a few players have. Of course that doesn't guarantee anything but it does make you think "I'm gonna follow this kid's fortunes".
  • Finally, from the few vids I've seen Stringer looks much better overhead than Hahn.
All of this make me think he will be a different sort of player to Hahn, hopefully a much better one. However if we get 180+ honest and gutsy games out of him like we did with Mitch, I'll still be very satisfied. I'm more confident we'll get a long and productive career from Stringer than we will get from our last #5 pick.

This to me is the most important, and attractive, feature of them all.
We have NEVER had one of those arrogant, "kick it to me" matchwinners in the Franklin mould.

Someone who will stand up and win a game off their own boot when it needs winning.

At the risk of getting a million miles ahead of ourselves - this kid seems to have that aura about him.

Definitely a strut about him that's for sure....

Also worth remembering one of the greatest Centre Half Forwards and finals players to have laced up a boot was only 186cm.

Dermott Brereton.

Height is secondary to footy smarts, courage and out and out ability. Height makes those factors magnify.

Ah, I stand corrected - checked the WB site and he's 191cm/92kgs.

Fev was 191cm/100kg in his AFL days...

I read somewhere that there was talk of this being slightly inaccurate - saying Fev was closer to 188cms.

Supercoach anyone. hopefully he plays some games early in the year and scores a few points. He looks a beast who if he gets his fitness up is ready from round 1!!!! Looking forward to the NAB cup to see the young guns testing there skills.

stringer WILL be a gun if he plays anything like he did for bendigo against werribee in the finals dominated that game easily

although hopefully he's debut wont be to good in round 1;)

Couldn't let this one go without checking some facts.
Bendigo did not play Werribee in the finals, they played Williamstown in the Elimination Final and were beaten 11.17 to 10.11.
Stringer scored 1 goal and if my memory serves me correct was otherwise quiet and seemed to be lumbering a bit.
He was not in the 6 best Bendigo players.

I doubt he'd be good value in SC/DT this year. Same for most of the first round picks.

Sure, some will get regular games, but you could get cheaper rookies to score the same points.

I watched him closely at training on Friday morning and the kid can generate some power of a few steps.... Just ask Vezpremi who was run over by him in a tackling drill.... He has very good hands and took everything out in front of his face at speed... He's definitely being groomed as a forward for the time being from what I saw... Potential is a dirty word but this kid has a heap of it and so does Josh Prudden....

Good To hear. I think we have recruited very good footballers this time round

what did you think of Hrovat and Cooney? Was Coon Dog moving freely and did he show good acceleration?

I apologise, I didn't get to watch the whole session... By the time I got there all of the big guns were done... I watched the last 20-30 mins and it centered around most of the younger guys... Needless to say Cooney was long finished as I looked on. I did see Hrovat and he is a ball of energy, he likes it rough at tough and has plenty of voice. The other person to impress me, well mainly by his appearance was Redpath. He's trimmed down but still looks powerful and speaking of powerful Tom Campbell is a beast of a man up close.... WOW.. He moved really well for a man mountain, his kicking was on the improve (as was Jongs) as well.. It was good to see all the the new boys have quite a high skill level (except for Young who butchered it a bit) and the most skillful (from the limited time I had) was Prudden... I walked away very impressed by the kid..

thanks for the feedback guys ! I am really excited about Prudden also TBH ! Also excited about Stringer and Hrovat also !

I really hope Coon Dog 's knee operation works as it would be awesome having him fit and firing and back to his brilliant quick best this season.
