Jako and Kelly

Congratulations to two true champions of the game on their 200th matches. Skillful, honest, fair, passionate, loyal and determined. Not all so-called champions can claim to display all these traits.
They've both been through so much since their peaks (~1995 and before), and it is a huge credit to them that they're both still playing.

I just hope they both return to top form before too long.... (although Kelly could wait till next week if he wants

)

Jakovich,while I think is overated does deserve congratulations on a fine career and return after a knee reco to boot.

Paul Kelly should (if he played in Victoria) go down as maybe the most inspirational player of at least the last decade and maybe way beyond that. The amount of times that bloke put in beyond the cause to try 3-4-5 times to get to a contest was and is truly mind blowing. Without doubt the most underated ruck rover ive seen, doesnt get nearly the plaudits he should have done. Not mentioned against the likes of Harvey/Crawf/Bucks and the like. Yet better than all of them when he was at his best.
Fantastic career and a CHAMPION! A word used way to loose nowdays fits very well on his shoulders.

But he played in New South Wales, not in the provinces, so he will be remembered as a national legend.

Kel is a legend and a national treasure - wherever he comes from, wherever he plays and whoever he plays for.

He will be remembered for his exploits first and foremost as a footballer, not a Swan.

Jackovich over-rated sheez that's harsh, the guy is one of the best CHB's ever and part of the best half back line ever(McKenna,Jacko,Worsfold). Consistently beat one of the best players ever (Carey). And bloody hell could he move in his prime, built like a Bank and moved as fast as alot of midfielders.

As for Kelly well he's an out and out champ who trancends clubs, states codes, what ever. Sensational, inspirational, unstopable etc etc etc.

So we all agree. Kelly is a super star. He is one of the best players I have seen in my time and no-one is more inspirational.

Am I right that he comes from Wagga? That makes two great role models from there. Kelly and Mark Taylor. I can't think of any other 'good' role models from there.

Rice,ive seen Jako beaten by jobbers like jason taylor and mensch. He was nearly always beaten by Kernahan and Salmon used to crush him, he was helped out by the flankers you name around him and a bloke behind him called Mcintosh who is a better player than he ever was. I stick by it, sure he may have the wood on Carey but some blokes just match up well on others.
Very good footballer but not a great, not to me anyway.

Grendel youve obviously got no idea what your talking about, i thought you knew the game better than that. A devout Eagles hater would still concede that Jako is an absolute legend, ive heard ppl calling him the greatest CHB the game has ever seen, and if he goes on to play another 50-100 games he will deserve that title. Jakovich....champion.

Kelly i think is underrated too hes probably as good as bucks and Harvey pity injury cut him down in his prime just like Jako, i hope he has a great gets 40 touches but the swans lose by ten goals

jod, its just an opinion, as for him being the greatest CHB ever thats dreamland.

Mew,Roos,Glendinning,Knights,Whitten and many others all have bigger claims on that than Jako ever will. He had the players in Worsfold (the hardness) and Mckenna (the silk) to compliment him. Also I rate McIntosh at his best a better player. He was quicker, a better kick and judgement when to punch or mark for mine was superior to Jako.
Okay I will conceed he may become great, but I dont think he is there yet.
Kelly, ooohhh shivers down the spine for that bloke though hahaha.

I also rate Mcintosh a better footballer than Jako. If that offends you well,im sorry,but its still what I think.


I just cant put him in champion class.
He is a good mark without being superb, solid kick,hits targets but not a real penetrating kick. Zones of his man and gets caught out by some one who runs runs runs.
Wide turning circle and not to flash with his handball. Doesnt really play all that well below the knees,ie ground play. Can look (and looks count,it can effect the teams outlook if team leaders look disheartend) disinterested if the Eagles are not going to flash. Cant really play anywhere else but CHB. All the others i previously mentioned (and Mcintosh) could go forward,and to effect. In particular Knights, Glendinning and Whitten.

So theres my wrap on him.

Again im not knocking his acheivment, anyone who make 200 can play the game, no doubt. But not everyone who plays 200 is a champ. Hell not everyone that plays 300 is a champ.
Disagree with me fine, but again i stress, its only my view. Your welcome to yours, but dont expect me to change mine.

As for not liking West Aussies, well I guess id better not tell the old man (a kalgoolie born and bred sandgroper) or the other 40/50 relatives and mates of mine in the beautiful beautiful West.

Jakovich - Fine Player on his day - but dont try to have a conversation with the guy he has the personality of a loaf of bread, Even MY boss, the most one eyed west coast supporter agrees with this assessment of his form, and also said he hads been hit in the head too many times in his career. Poor Jacko - I rekon if his brother Allen had avoided injury he would have put Glen on a backburner fot a long time
