I agree. He certainly will give Fly something to think about if he plays well in the practice match against the Tigers...
He definitely stood out against a pretty strong Brisbane side on Thursday, with his running to space and rebound off HB.
In saying that, we need to start seeing him now getting more comfortable in the AFL environment going into his third season on the list, and really show he is up to the level this season.
I can see him playing between 5 to 8 senior games this season, which l think will be a good base for him to build on going forward. If his form is really strong at senior level that could increase to 10 to 12 games which will be fantastic for him and the club, with a young gun waiting in the wings ready to step up.
Only problem for him now is who could he replace in the side?

It's not enough to think spots will come up by attrition because there are also season 1,2 and 3 players who will go right by him in 26 if he hasn't claimed a spot.

Yong guns rarely pay less than 20 games in 1st 3 seasons. Most of them do 40-60

Good point but he played 36 games in his 1st 3 seasons. If you look at the Blairs, Cal Browns, Phillips etc of the world. Guys who had 50-100-150 game careers but were workers at best. Almost all play a fair bit in their 1st 3 seasons.

Doing so doesnt ensure a long career but if you dont its pretty sure your career is shortlived. There are occasional exceptions like Josh D bit they are few, Hopefully Reef is another.

Based on that first practice run last week I was pleasantly surprised by Ryan’s performance. May he continue and develop into a first 23 footy player. Good luck to him. Liked what I saw.

I've been a little critical of Jakob in the past, his safe kicking, short sideways or long down the line seem to be his only options. Would like to see him take the defense on more by using the centre corridor.

I was happy with his game last night, defensively, one on one he looks sound, good speed and size. I just hope with confidence he takes the corridor option.

I’m still not seeing it. Apart from a purple patch early season 2023, I think he’s been poor defensively and especially in 1v1 contests. His 1 wood is his intercept game but the lack of elan in that diminishes it as a positive. Even last night he had that intercept on the wing, stepped around the flat footed Essendon player at pace to chest mark and rather than using his momentum to continue forward ball movement, he stopped, propped, went back behind the mark. He just isn’t impacting in a positive way. It’s a long season so hopefully it turns for him.

Maybe - I’d have Parker / Markov ahead of him

They’re such ****n sooks it’s sad really. I’ve been threadbanned for going about 15% of my flog capacity before. If I ramped it up to 70-80% they’d be in the fetal position

Seems to be getting a bit more midfield time this year. Not sure if that’s a consequence of other mids like Mitchell and HH being unavailable from the squad and Macrae in and out of the side, or by design.
