Has woosh lengthened Jako's career by using up forward. He kicked 3 goals on Sat night & looked alot more nimble up front.

Thoughts...

No doubt - was looking slow and overmatched at CHB earlier in the year. CHF might extend his career by a couple of seasons.

Reminds me of Glendinning back in 87 - was too slow for CHB in his twilight, but did the job for us up forward.

I think so.

I was for one saying that Jak would need to give it away as he is not the CHB he once was. I was thinking he needed to consider retirement at the end of the season.

Playing CHF seems to added some Zip for the great man, so if it prolongs his career playing in the position, I am happy to see Jak make it to 300 games.

How about the Gasman at FF, Sampi & Fido in the pockets.
Jako at CHF, with Haynes on a flank?

Probably going to come down to matchups. I dare say Jako will still spend time at CHB depending on his match up.

Strange thing is that KJ used Jako up forward and that plan failed miserably

If Jako can hold down CHF then Gaspar should get some exposure playing in the backline - would do him good

Yes true, but if KJ was your coach, would you give him all you have or would you do it for Woosha?

With Judge's negativity, it would have been hard to play at your best, especially when the coach would have placed some doubts in your mind about your strengths.

Jako playing up forward has definately lengthened his career which is a good thing because his presense around the club means alot more than we can ever know. I still reckon, when theres a good matchup that Jako will play down back at CHB because he'd still be without a doubt one of the best body on body CHB around. Its just he isnt as quick as he needs to be these days and when theres a quicker CHB he doesnt match up on them in the lead well. Its better for gaspar to do that kind of job. But...when we have a slower CHF to match up on..by all means put Jako down back! When he isnt down back, play him forward, he's shown that he can kick goals and provide a target! We all forget that he was actually a full forward in his junior/wafl days! MM made him a CHB, Jako wasnt originally a CHB!

I won't forget that. (if my memory serves me correctly)

Swan Districts up by 24 points at 1/2 time against Souths in 1990 and Jakovich kicked 4 at FF after the half to win the game.

Worst of all, Mrs. J (Glen's Mum) sat in front of me and let me know he was her boy, after I sprouted some garbage at Jak when kicking for goal.

why?

we haven't had a true CHF for some time and as soon as we get one that show true potential we move hime down back.
so he can learn to be accountable - ever noticed Carey playing down back during his career? and he was arguably the best CHF in modern times

So Jako is now useless as a defender and has to be used up forward? If Gaspar and Doogs can get into the seniors and avoid injury, then Jako's days are numbered. I can see 2004 being his last year (somehow I don't think he'll be pushed into retirement this year).

i wouldnt say useless, its just that other teams realise that to beat Jako you put a quick opponent on him. if that doesnt work, just play against him in the goalsquare... every team does it against us now

he's been very useful up forward and seems rejuvenated there, i say let him spend some time there and alternate between him and Gaspar in that role

CHB is an overrated position as far as defending goes. How many game winning CHF are there going around? How many teams even employ a tall CHF these days? Bulldogs use Brad Johnson there, Demon's Russell Robertson etc.

As far as tall forwards go there aren't many top notch players. Lloyd, Neitz, Richo, Treadrea, Tarrant, Lynch/Bradshaw, Hall come to mind and you could make a case for a few others but a Carroll or Glass can be serviceable enough on most weeks. Other weeks Jak will go back there in his rebounding role.

Throwing him forward and back as Woosh tends to do is good I'd reckon. Woosh does work a lot on the basis of Match-ups and whilst Jak is posing problems for the opposition one way or another he'd have another couple of years in him.

The big plus Jako brings is leadership. He was in the middle of the huddle again on Sat night addressing the boys after the game. That's a side of his game that can't be underestimated.

BTW was 3 goals a career high?

Totally agree, the team stand to respond to him. He's like their onfield coach. I noticed when he was down here at York Park that he really geed up the young blokes like Judd and Kerr and Sampi. Cousins is a good captain because he plays well and lifts the side. But Jako is more of the enforcer imo! He would be more likely to scream at someone for doing the wrong thing than Cuzz would be imo!

I think it has extended his career somewhat...how long though I dont know, because Gaspar is waiting to come back into the side. I think Jakovich can still be good for us down back but he can also be a liability, really depends on matchups.

IMO whether it is up forward or down back, Jakovich still has this season and next in front of him. Then we will have to reassess just where Jako is at.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jako playing the bulk of the season at CHF, with Gaspar gettin some time in the backline and at CHF, while also rotating McDougall/Johnson/Hansen/Lynch etc,. through CHF and FF with Haynes.
