Why are the Dogs underperforming ? Genuinely curious because it seems most years the Dogs are voted to be there about but never get close to the pointy end of the season
Good clubs don’t have key assets request trades to other clubs, losing Dunkley was a clear sign something stinks at the kennel.

Not an apologist for Bevo but seems to me your season went to the ****er after Liam Jones missed almost 3 months of footy through injury. He was one of your most important players last season..
Also you were knocked out of finals contention in the final round/game of the season (my boys decided to not give a * in the final game against GWS)

I don't know if it's an inflated expectation mindset after winning the 2016 flag but I sometimes think some of you Dogs fans are way top harsh on Bevo.
But there in lies the issue, they had to bring in Liam Jones at 32, off a 12 month suspension to fill a hole because Bevo has never prioritised having a quality key defender, has routinely tried to fill holes with C graders like Keath, Gardener, Bruce. The demons realised they had big holes in their defence and prioritised this bringing in May & Lever, and it’s a surprise to no one that were the key to their flag win.

Quality young key position defenders are actually quite harder to find in the draft than KPFs.

O'Donnell does look like a future Quality backman and hopefully the Dogs can retain Busslinger.

Would be a bloody shame if they spent a high pick on him and he went back after 2 years after they developed him.

I do also think they haven't got enough quality and esp pace in the midfield, Libba and Bont have just done too much heavy lifting for The Doggies in the past couple of years..

I would love to go on a tangent about how we don't train actual engineers in this country anymore and we just have excel jockeys who make mistakes by blindly reading the data but I think I might decline to go on that tangent.
What do you mean? You can just a 3 minute you tube clip and find the best key defenders.
I don't know why clubs pay recruiters

Sanders looks a jet but agree re pace. We have been trialling a young bloke from last year's draft Gallagher who looks a player and has wheels to burn. Hoping he can come good

The point wasn't that the good players were bad but there was something wrong with the club to lose good players. I think that is probably true of Judd, but both gaj and bud left for infinite money. That wasn't anything to do with Hawthorn or Geelong.
I agree fully. Was more of a tongue in cheek swipe at the comment about good clubs not having gun players request trades

Bud didn't just leave for the money, it was to get out of Melbourne

What does that say about Hawthorn then, when Hodge "retired" and immediately came back and played multiple seasons at Brisbane and now co siders himself a Brisbane alumni

It is often hard for people who have been professional athletes their whole lives to transition into retirement. I am happy he was able to find new purpose guiding a brilliant young Brisbane team. He still calls himself a Hawk though and is regularly at Hawthorn functions. I really like how both Mitchell and Hodge were able to be really supportive of young rising teams after the Hawthorn era ended.

We even sent some help your way to help guide you guys to some success. Is Taylor still on your list?

Yeah... Duryea is of the same value as Lake was to Hawthorn

They offered different things. Duryea brought a winning culture and finals experience. Lake brought defensive muscle. Only one of those actually relates to what we are discussing in terms of sharing experience.

Duryea didn't add significantly to the Dogs' backline.

Lake helped Hawthorn win 3 flags in a row. (And for a packet of chips)

If you want to throw out the "you're welcomes " ... it's a bit misplaced don't you think

Chris Judd was paid $300k a year to be an environmental dude at a cardboard company owned by the family on the board of Carlton FC as a part of the offer for him to join the Blues.

After that, the AFL made it no longer allowed to be used as a selling point, officially, but if it happened after the deal was signed then it's all above board.

All three of Judd, Ablett and Franklin left for the biggest deal in the league at the time.

Duryea has been a mainstay of our defense, since arrival, only to be slowing down now. How much more value do you want?

I have always been really mad at how weak the afl have been at dealing with payments outside the cap. My understanding is that there is a fair bit of it still happening under the table too.

Are you Cottoning-On as to what kind of incentives Geelong offer to lure players to their club?
