How do you think he compares next to Max King at the same age in terms of attributes?Saw him play today and my god he is clean. Has great hands for someone of his size and very long arms. Bulldogs have a good one. A little skinny and not overly fast but he is a tall, has good skills and is agile for his size.
Which is why they should be AFL ran and not club tied. The Northern Academies are not the same, having specialised training to keep potential draftees from switching to NRL or other sports in non-AFL orientated states is necessary, whereas there's not much chance of that happening in most of the Vic NGA zones
I haven't seen Max play a lot but they are pretty similar I'd. From what I saw, he is a smaller, cleaner Max King. How do you think he compares next to Max King at the same age in terms of attributes?
But they don't have father and son like Bulldog. Green get bid in top 5.
So far GC Suns only get one decent players in Bowes. GWS get only nick shipley, after VIC club complain about their academy players and shut the door on them. Bailey Scott choose North as father and son and Blakey choose academy so is 50/50. VIC club like Collingwood and North benefits more than any club if you talk about academy players in recent year.Father son isn’t comparable to The Northern academies. Vic club’s may have access to a half decent father son once every 3-5 years, sometimes even longer. The academies are churning out good players on a yearly basis.
The academies will be restructured eventually but it will be planned for 2-3 years ahead. Clubs have been putting in time and effort with the young kids almost at draft age and it would be brain dead stuff from the league if they changed the rules now, effective immediately.
Having said that, AFL are all about making brain dead decisions, so you never know.

Quite frankly the NGA’s are a farce. Have been from the beginning.
Should never have been brought in, in the first place.
Very exciting prospect. Though he is very lucky with delivery he gets from the Oakleigh star studded midfield
We’ve done the exactly the same amount of development as your club did prior to drafting Blakey. Stop your crying. Can someone please tell me what the Western Bulldogs have done to develop this kid and to keep him playing football and not getting lost to another code???
These NGA's seem legit...

While I agree that the NGA seem a rort, probably would've been a better thing to say before Nick Blakey got drafted....Can someone please tell me what the Western Bulldogs have done to develop this kid and to keep him playing football and not getting lost to another code???

Have been working with him and his family for years, including supporting his uncle's youth program. Marra's getting access to a far better education than he would have and the foundation work benefits the wider community. Can someone please tell me what the Western Bulldogs have done to develop this kid and to keep him playing football and not getting lost to another code???

Having a potential top 5 player in 2020 opens the door for you to trade your 2020 1st round pick this year or next. Like the Swans with Blakey and the Roos with Thomas there is no need to get this kid with your 1st pick when you can get him with later picks.Have been working with him and his family for years, including supporting his uncle's youth program. I imagine next year we'll try and trade down our first at a points surplus. We also have another highly rated NGA kid, plus Ewan McPherson available as a FS pick so we will need the points.Having a potential top 5 player in 2020 opens the door for you to trade your 2020 1st round pick this year or next. ThisProblem then is that we're granting exclusive additional access for the northern states, and denying the same to other clubs.
The entire academy system is obviously severely flawed, but to only allow QLD and NSW clubs the exclusive rights to kids who may or not have played AFL anyway is clearly unfair. Just look at Sydney's recruitment of Blakey last year. The kid was eligible for FS elsewhere, yet somehow qualifies as an academy kid, completing taking the piss out of the entire point of the system. Not Sydney's fault they did that, obviously it's the AFL's for enabling a situation like that
Yep, like the TAC Cup, but on a smaller scaleWhich is why they should be AFL ran and not club tied.
Who do you think he plays most like at this stage KM?Leaps for everything and is always a threat when he elevates, creates separation on the lead so easily- both to an elite level. He can improve his hands overhead, improve his conversion in front of goal, could do with some more penetration on his kick and would benefit from playing a more team oriented game as very much an all about me kind of footballer. But the talent is there and he has the scope because he is already so unstoppable either launching at the ball aerially or on the lead that it would be very easy to see him becoming one of the competition's best forwards.
