Can someone please tell me what the Western Bulldogs have done to develop this kid and to keep him playing football and not getting lost to another code???

These NGA's seem legit...
Is that what your club did with Blakey? Was he set to play Rugby before your club hired his dad as a coach?

Lol. I love all the people banging on about Nick Blakey (who's been in the Academy since he was about 11 years old might I add), The 1 and only player who is from an AFL background who has been an Academy pick... but I'm sure The Oakleigh Chargers have done nothing to develop Jamarra... must be all The Doggies and all their money and time they invest into their NGA program...[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

If you can't see that at times clubs including yours have benefited from these questionable academics, you're not worth having a discussion with because you're clouded.

Why are they questionable?

AFL is not embedded in to our sporting culture up here.

We have no NAB league up here that’s funded by the AFL. Nothing even remotely close.

We have local junior league clubs that wouldn’t even come close to the ones in Vic, SA or WA.

AFL has only just started being played in a small number of private schools this year in QLD, and is still behind rugby union and soccer in those schools.

It’s only been in a few public schools for a short time, and in most of those schools it’s behind rugby league and soccer.

The four northern clubs each pump in more than a million dollars to their academies each year. That’s money your clubs don’t have to spend on junior development.

We get the best boys and girls in our zones in to our academies and they get a higher standard of coaching, skills development, gym etc, that the local clubs can’t provide.

Blakey might still have played AFL if the academies didn’t exist in NSW. But he would have been playing at a far lower level as a kid. So you can question if his development would have been the same.

Until you’ve lived up here, and experienced the culture, you’re not really in a position to comment on the success, or otherwise, of the Northern academies.

I can tell you when I was at school in the 80’s, AFL was called GAYFL, and any kid who played was called a ****ter by other school kids and their parents.

Not much has changed in some of the rugby league heartland suburbs near on 30 years later.

I think you've made your point enough, clearly not everyone agrees on the subject. This is not the thread for it

Nice chase down. Hopefully he can start kicking set shots straight.

Yeah obviously we have the choice. But why would we turn down the best player in the draft

They are questionable because they are giving teams a free hit at elite talent regardless of finishing position at much higher rate than father son would even with an advanced breeding program.

The giants could win the flag and then acquire Green as a top three pick. Not to mention the points system can be abused to downgrade their highly sought after high draft picks for additional currency in either future picks or players.

Gold Coast is the only team that actually needs to produce the talent and they’ve produced one decent prospect in Bowes.

The afl should be funding northern academies and no one should have priorty access to them. They are ****ing the lower teams every year.

Fantastic talent. Dogs side will be even more exciting next few years.

GC will have probably 2 kids drafted this year in Budarick and Ace. Not sold on Budarick as a true AFL level player. Ace has all the tools though, has taken great strides this year - Varcoe type.

Next year Alex Davies a 190cm mid will definitely make the grade.

Hopefully thats the start of a few guys starting to come through.

depends what the club needs more at the Draft/FA
Username checks out. If I were running a club, even if I had Jeremy Cameron and Ben Brown in my team, I still would match a bid on Jamarra if I had the right to do so.
