Fact: both Freeman and Aish are 19 and out of contract.
Fact: neither club wants to lose the player in question
Fact: Collingwood will, despite the situation will try to help their player get to the team he chooses
Fact: Lions will not.
Putting FACT before it doesn't change the fact that you putting total faith in mere Herald Sun speculation.

One high relevant FACT you neglected to mention however is that Freeman has officially requested a trade, Aish has not.

Another FACT (if we take Herald Sun speculation as granted) is that is is up to the player's preferred destination club to make sure they have the currency to do the deal. If they have hypothetically already spent their pocket money elsewhere, that isn't the original club's problem to solve.

Fact: Aish needs to first request a trade and make his mind up, just like Nathan Freeman did.

Fact: To date, Aish has not nominated a preferred new club, should he decide to not sign as new contract with the Lions.
Fact: Nathan Freeman has nominated St Kilda as his preferred club of choice.
Fact: Nathan Freeman is also not an unrestricted or restricted free agent. Collingwood is under no obligation to help him get to the club of his choice.

It's somewhat amusing that pretty much everyone dislikes the notion of players requesting trades to specific clubs at their end of their rookie contracts (as Pies fans rightly were with Freeman when he announced his intentions), until they get a sniff of one themself. Then suddenly the club in question is chastised for failing to bend over backwards to facilitate it.

Fact: Leigh Matthews doesn't give a toss what his adversaries think of him. He'll make a cold decision on what's in the best interests of his footy club.

Sorry I understand now. When it comes to FA Pickering is subtle and secretive. No FA and he is a bull at a gate. Makes perfect sense now.
I'm assuming this is sarcasm?

Surely you can see that there is a difference. Free agency you basically just sign... no need to make your intentions known. Plus let's not forget with Buddy his season was still going all the way up until the grand final.

My point was with trading, Pickering historically has had no issue announcing the players want a trade before a "clear path" is established.

Okay the first two points are indeed fact.
The third point is almost fact. The club has said they will try to help Freeman get to the Saints, but have also said in relation to the trade that the best interests of the club is the first priority.
The fourth point is purely speculation based off of comments made by Leigh Matthews which have been more or less contradicted by the CEO and List Manager in subsequent interviews.

I personally think they need to double the length of the rookie contracts and strengthen the consequences for a player breaking a contract before its completion. At the moment there are monetary and TPP implications for a club ending a contract with a player early (the club must pay out the contract and include it in their TPP unless they can find another club to take it on). However there are no consequences for players doing the same (the club can refuse to trade but generally don't because it's not a good idea to keep someone around that doesn't want to be there). I reckon if a player breaks a contract they need to pay back some or all money the club has paid them and if another club wants to pay it on the players behalf it needs to be included in their TPP.

True but Pickering is also very good at manipulating a situation to his and his client's advantage, usually with little concern for the club or clubs involved. Look at how he played the Boyd situation last year. Do you really think Boyd only decided to break his contract and go to the Dogs for 7 years with a week to go in the trade period?

The part where you assumed you know exactly how he thinks?
How terribly presumptive of me to think Leigh would and has done what is in the best interests of his club without giving a toss what people outside the club think of that decision.

Where have you been living? or am i unfairly judging you and you are young and don't know the guy bar the cuddly grandfather on Ch7?

Fair point.

Sounds like the Lions will be seeking certainty from Pickering this week so we will hopefully know soon enough.

Haha, I think you might be confused as to what a fact actually is Tezza. I've been living in Rand, Wodonga, Albury, Bristol (UK), Melbourne, Brisbane and now Darwin, thanks for asking. Where have you been living?

No I'm not young and if by "know the guy bar the cuddly grandfather on ch7" you mean Leigh Matthews then yes I know who he is, but no I don't know him personally as you seem to believe you do. I also don't feel as though you've judged me but again, thanks for asking.

My point would be that Pickering wouldn't have a one size fits all approach. He would do whatever he and his client felt best fitted the circumstance. I have no idea which way Aish wants to go but I don't see any certainty that Pickering would want to make an early announcement if Aish does want to leave.

Roylion told me earlier in the thread when i asked about Leigh's position at the Club, that he is Vice Chairman and Football Director. I think Roylion would know.

This position that Leigh holds informs me that he can/has driven his opinion to become a Board/Club position on Aish. Hence Leigh's "i can guarantee that". Aish and Pickering seemed to listen.
Why has Pickering been so quiet? If his client wanted out to specific club, do you honestly think he'd just sit back and say nothing following Leighs comments? Doubt it.
Think there has been a bit going on behind the scenes that us experts aren't privy to.
We'll all know in a day or two thank god.

As you say we can only speculate. Possibly he really hasn't decided but that seems unlikely. If he wants to stay it doesnt make sense not to announce unless he still wants a little more. It doesn't sound like there is any active discussion at the moment.

If he was going to say Collingwood maybe one answer would be Collingwood want him to wait until the Treloar deal is bedded down so they can then know what they have to deal with

All speculation though.

True. Not so sure about the dollars though. You'd want balls the size of a rhino to ask for more than what has been speculated(that word again) I honestly think he just didn't/ doesn't know what he wanted/wants. I posted on our board that it wouldn't surprise me if his initial decision was to leave, but the club has grown on him over time. Hence the delay. Again just speculation;)

But yeah, why it would take up until the day trade week starts for him to realise he wants to stay does raise many questions.

If you had a gun to your head you'd still bet on him requesting a trade at this point - based purely on the delays and not media speculation.

If so, the biggest gain from his departure from Brisbane's standpoint mightn't necessarily be the trade return but hopefully some AFL action on stemming the rising trend of rookies serving two year apprenticeships before buggering off elsewhere.
