The same way you guys couldn't understand we were only offering pick 5 for Beams? Do we really have to act surprised and feign outrage each time a team goes through the usual ambit claims in trade negotiations?

Will be a much smoother trade period this year for both supporter bases if we just accept that both teams will play the game.
The thing is i could understand why u only wanted to offer pick 5 as Beams wanted to leave us for you
Im not surprised how Brisbane have responded but im surprised how many Lions fans are fine with this happening. Brisbane will deal with us as they wont let a top draft pick walk away for nothing.
Both clubs will go at it but it will get done.

This is terrible! How can a player just do two years of a contract and then just say shove it and walk out? There should be laws against this.

Or is it only terrible when Collingwood are on the receiving end?
The issue with Freeman is less about him walking after two years, and more about him walking after spending his entire career on the sidelines. He's put Collingwood in the weakest possible position they could be in from a trade perspective.

The only thing it could do is deter kids from even wanting to be drafted to Brisbane.
Geez, that would be a change from the norm!

Like someone else just said, this is Brisbane's starting point (somewhat like Collingwood's 3pm Friday deadline last year). It's just the "okay, come to us when you are ready to talk a fair trade, we're not ******* around" statement. Let's not overthink it.

As I said before, clubs always play the game. Some of it is strategy, some of it is theatre for the fans. Let's not overanalyse someone moving their pawn forward two spaces.

To stop players going you need to find good players and win games and build a strong program.
Oh wow, I wish we'd thought of that. What a cunning strategem!

Spin it how you want, there was Collingwood ferals on your board wishing career ending injuries on him. The same ferals will probably be describing this as 'karma' for Freeman walking out, that a higher rated junior is walking in.

Also, Aish has put Brisbane into a weak position yet again.

Saints were very interested .... and still have a higher PSD pick ...
The deal is not done and dusted yet.
He is neither

A. Recovering from a chronic injury
B. Dummy spitter with attitude issues.

So Aish doesn't fit your recruiting criteria.

I honestly think they will let him walk unless it is a genuinely "fair" trade this time.

Like you I am sure a trade will get done, but the Lions are setting this up to be "fairer" than you'd expect in a situation like this. They will have a tipping point where they will be willing to let him walk. And if it is in the vicinity of what we got for the GH5, we will see a tougher Brisbane.

At some point it isn't about Aish, but about the next three Aishes. At some point you wear the short term hit for the long term.[/QUOTE
You may be right. But so many players that have departed over the past two years cannot be wrong. why punish the players for the stench at BL when the people causing the problems remain
