Sydney is the only team that doesn't specifically need it's first rounder so I've got no doubt that needy teams trying to get deals over the line, like Pies needing two first rounders for Treloar, will be looking to trade for Sydney's pick 14 as it is only worth points to us, doesn't equate to a player around that mark.
A lot depends on what occurs with the Jetta deal. If Sinclair or Lycett are used, the importance of points increases for Mills & Dunkley.

Is there any other teams?
Paul Connors was on trade radio during the week talking about Luey's FA deal to either Ess or Sydney. When quizzed about the compo he said he thought it would be more like a 2nd rounder or even a 3rd rounder under the new system. He made it sound like Luey was making a football decision not a money one.

To that end if Luey only got the Lions a 3rd rounder then what the Pies could offer in 2nd rounders could become a lot more attractive to them; as the Courier Mail article is alluding too.

Brisbane knew Aish wasn't keen on being drafted by the club they took the risk it backfired unlucky
You can't blame them from recruiting him, they have ever right to pick best available and back there system to keep him. They have had the rough end of the stick. Something just isn't working up there! I just thick not trading him is the answer in my opinion. I guess there lucky in one way he never nominated Carlton.

Isn't Leuenberger a Restricted Free Agent? Brisbane could match the offer and force a trade from Essendon or Sydney if they think the compo is going to be too low (though that is risky as they have to make the call without knowing what the compo would be).

We will get band 3 at worst, which, due to our low ladder position is about pick 22 this year.

Copy. I'm sure he said 3rd rounder under the revised compo system but he could have meant Band 3. That's still not too bad is it?

Think they'd take 22. Not sure they'd get much better than that from Ess or Sydney. Also now it's looking like you won't pick up a new FA there will be no affect on the incoming pick.

What's Sydney's current delistings/retirements to draft picks? You guys fine there?
Retirements: Shaw, Pyke, Goodes
Potential Trades: Jetta, Bird, Robinson
Potential Delistings: Marsh
Upgrades: Naismith

So we will be taking potentially 2 to 5 players. If we got the 2 mid 20's picks, we would be able to get mills after the discount and still be able to keep our second rounder which would be ideal.

Beams being contracted meant Collingwood were entitled to say, you are under contract, it is your legal duty to honour the contract. But they didn't, they were fair and reasonable as they know it's pointless to hold a player and his rights against his will.
Excellent - please ask Aish to sign a 1 year contract with us. Let's talk trade then.

How about pick 19?

"The Lions have said they will not trade Aish but if Collingwood offer something attractive, they would surely take it.

Pushing a player into the draft when they can get something for him does not look tough, it just looks pig-headed, and Lions CEO Greg Swann knows how to get a deal done.

Although it does not appear the Pies have the picks to satisfy both GWS and the Lions, there is plenty of trading yet to happen.

Collingwood may get pick 19 or 22 from the Suns for Seedsman, and will also attract a decent pick for Nathan Freeman who wants to join the Saints.

That could be on offer for the Lions. Pick 19 for a player who does not want to be at the Gabba, and who struggled to cement a spot in a battling side this year, is a reasonable return."
Wondering if Suns have been informed about this deal.

THERE IS NO WAY BRISBANE WINS IN THIS TRADE.
That is Matthews' point. Trading Aish, after two years of development and 32 senior games is a loss for Brisbane. According to Matthews even a first round draft pick is at best a 50/50 prospect. A second round draft pick is even worse. If the club is to send a message this is the year to do it.

The question is what happens if Aish doesn't see a clear pathway to get to Collingwood. Does he re-sign with Brisbane or does he risk the ND or PSD? Does he accept going to any Melbourne club via a trade. A couple of clubs such as Carlton and Hawthorn have a fair bit of trade currency in doing a deal with Brisbane. Bell, Casboult, Anderson, Whitecross and Hawthorn' late first round DP.

A package for Aish (especially from Carlton) may be enough to convince to Brisbane that there is a 'win' to be gained by trading Aish.

That again sounds like restraint of trade for Brisbane.
The whole AFL is a restraint of trade. There will be signficant dealings behind the scenes between Brisbane, the AFL, the PA & Collingwood in this deal.

The AFL will rightfully ask Brisbane why you asked for a Priority Pick two weeks ago and are knocking back a potential fair and equitable trade for one of the players who has walked out.

Let's find out what the trade offer is before going over the top.
