Firstly, I know how the world works, I am not naive, however:
It shouldn't be like this, should it. Any club should be able to draft a player as per their needs, and have a reasonable expectation, or at least a fair crack, at having a long term player as a result. This is the intent of the draft, to allow clubs with list deficiencies to rectify them, in reverse ladder order, to create churn. It is the fair thing to do, right?
So now, we have to go to the draft, we have a desperate need for a KPP, and not only do we have to find the right positional fit, but we need to ensure that he wants to leave his family and friends, and will stay in two years? Are we having this discussion again in two years with this years recruit? Meanwhile, "destination" clubs get to watch all the ex draftees, and wait for them to come knocking. So, who has the greater risk here? By and large, if you are being honest, recruiting is a much more difficult job here than there. I know you want your club to be successful, but at the expense of a fair competition?
