Pickering said he expects the mooted deal to go through.

Pick 26, Bell - Brisbane.
Pick 24 - Carlton.
Aish - Collingwood.

Probably a win / win deal as you get.

Allows Brisbane to get a player compensation & have a pick for acadmey points.
Allows Carlton to get a pick around the mark they would for Bell.
Where did he say this? Link? Hope it's the trade

Nothing to lose, really. It would be nice to get him, but it will be fine to take the picks if Basti gets to the Lions too.
What if Bastinac moves for a single pick in the 20's? As it is though it's only a loss on this deal. You've already won the deal of the trade period with yesterdays move on Anderson, IMO.

Helps to already have a good trade in the bag, for sure. Coming off a couple of pretty good seasons, keeping everyone we want to, and bringing exactly the kind of player we need to improve, already feels like North is ahead. Aish is well worth a shot, but not the end of the world either way - same for Collingwood, really.

I can see us offering 17 or 21 in a trade that nets us Bastinac plus some of those 36-40 picks that you're accumulating.

I have a feeling that Bastinac might be the odd man out in this recruiting spree we're doing though. He seems to be a late addition and it may well be that we don't have the list spots given the draft to come.
Pick 17 = 1025 points, pick 21=878 points

Pick 38 & 40=894 points, so pick 17 for Bastinac, 38 and 40 would be Bastinac in exchange for pick 61, 21 would be us giving him away.

I would be surprised if Bastinac is traded unless it involves Aish or some other player. Brisbane is still interested in other players so I am not sure how they are going to do it and retain enough value to match the academy boys who will likely attract some decent bids.

What incentive do we have of moving him for a pick in the 20s? He is contracted for 2 years, we have mids that will retire in 2 years and he is likely better quality than anyone that we will get with a pick in the 20s in this draft.

Aish was recruited with pick 7, Bell is roadkill, that would be horrendous. Collingwood getting Aish for a mid table second round pick is way under. Collingwood wants to pile in other trades into the agreement to mask that they aren't putting in market value to get Aish.

Collingwood are effectively giving Brisbane a points value trade that is between Pick 8 & 9. That is as fair as you are going to get.

Those picks wont make an impact, if the two academy boys have first round bids, 17 and 21 will go first.

Brisbane are trading 17 in the Astbury deal. They need the picks if they want to trade and not be burnt by academy points.
17 for Astbury? Why? He has played 4, 8, 5, 2 and 5 games in the last 5 years. An early third round pick is his value.

I think the problem is Brisbane bleeding good quality players for unders and paying overs for average players, Collingwood wouldn't do terrible deals like that. If Astbury is worth pick 17, Aish is worth pick 1.

Astbury has been kept out by injury hence his game number. The last one was a freak accident stepping on a sting ray. A KPD for a side that is screaming out for one has more value to them than to your side. Also Leppa knows him and can get the best out of him. So while I agree that he is worth less than 17 as a rule, he suits their purposes and he is a great person with leadership qualities. He is what they need right now. So I can understand if he goes for pick 17 or thereabouts.

Astbury for 17 would also include a pick coming back to Brisbane.
17 has more value to us then pick 31 would. 17 would give us Keays or Hipwood straight out 21 would have to be added with 31 to get Keays or Hipwood depending on who gets bid on first

When I say he is worth a third round pick what I am suggesting is that if he went into the draft Brisbane could likely pick him up with that. 26 year old playing sub 50 games with a lot of injury issues over the years, I think he is definitely worth a punt but Brisbane need to stop trading like clowns.

He is 24 currently. Turns 25 next year. Right in his prime.

My bad, but still, his last 5 years has been pretty spotty with a lot of injury interruptions.

17 for Astbury plus a number of shittier picks going back to Brisbane would be okay IF they got rid of all the more valuable picks, just doing it for one or some would be pointless as their academy picks will eat into the other higher picks first.

If they are going to bring in a lot of other late second, third and fourth rounds picks, which with significant numbers are more valuable than top 10 picks in terms of F/S and Academy bidding, those picks will only be used if they are next best.

Their strategy might be to get some good players in with the better picks and collect less valuable picks, but they should just not pay overs for players or accept unders. Ideally, for Aish they would want a decent player plus some less valuable picks. It is a shame Freeman wants to go to the Saints, he would be the kind of player that would be handy for Brisbane plus some lesser round fodder picks for academy bidding.

I think that is the ultimate problem for Brisbane, they can't really afford to do one or two deals and have the others fall over, they would need to get them all done or not bother.

The incentive to get a deal approaching fair value, IMO...

Like Witts at Collingwood he's at a stage where it might be the best possible time to cash in. If things go to plan at North I hazard a guess that all of Dumont, Anderson, Turner and Garner will blow past him then we have Wells potentially returning from injury.

If he's in and out of the side will his trade value appreciate or depreciate over the next 12 months?

It is of course easier for me to sit back and be so blunt as a neutral, but I'm not really sure I can see North coming out ahead on a deal for Bastinac unless Aish changes his mind or North refuse to trade him so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

I presume it's on the radio show he does with Hutchy each Saturday that gets streamed through SEN. Unfortunately it's actually a crocmedia program not an SEN so SEN haven't put up any audio for it. If I find it anywhere I'll link it for you.
