I'm gonna spoil the party.

Aish isn't worth what we're likely going to have to pay for him if a move home eventuated.

I like him, and it'd be nice to have him - but there's plenty of water to go under the bridge with regards to his development and he's got some real hurdles to jump to reach A/B grade status. His year to year improvement hasn't been as strong as others, too. Doesn't have the pace to be a real line breaking outside mid, but doesn't win enough of his own ball to be a real A grade balanced mid. The slow/average speed A grade outside mid is a very rare thing in footy nowadays.

If he could be half the player Pendlebury is he's worth pick 9.

Pendlebury is all class on the inside though. Aish just doesn't have that game - at least not yet.

It also took Pendles 4 years before he came a genuine star.

Pendles played 9 games in his first year - Aish managed to get through 21.

A lot of water needs to go under the bridge before we can start comparing Aish to Pendles, but Aish hasn't done his chances of becoming an Elite footballer any harm in his first season.

To the discussion at hand - Do I want Aish. Absolutely - who wouldn't want a homegrown top 7 draft pick.

The only way we can even think about getting him is through a Beams / Collingwood type of menage....

Silly statement. Who cares about the pick position. I suppose Brisbane will say no to Beams because his pick was too late in the draft.

What are you on about? Your comparison is outright stupid.

Aish has played 21 games in one season. Of course his pick position is relevant. Draft position is an indicator of how clubs rated juniors compared to their peers. It is one of the most important things to look at with regards to juniors.

Where players are drafted is relevant until they play enough AFL games to show how they respond at AFL level.

Why do you think that Port picked up Polec. I can guarantee it wasn't because of the 16 games he played at Brisbane over 3 years.

Beams is another kettle of fish completely. He was drafted 6 years ago and has played 110 games and his AFL productivity has proven his worth.

Your statement was silly. Tambling was a top 7 pick. If he was traded after his 1st or 2nd year he still wouldn't have been a superstar.

Saying someone is "a top 7 pick" is not an argument.

Absolutely it is when it is talking about Aish who has played just 21 games and was drafted less than a year ago.

It is the #1 indicator of how talented a player was as a junior when compared to their peers. Apart from actual AFL gametime - whats a bigger indicator than draft position of a junior?

In no way have I said every top 7 pick is a guaranteed superstar. They need to prove themselves at AFL level. Once they have done this their draft position becomes less relevant.

So question - do you believe that this statement is true for top 20 draft picks:

Draft position = 95% Current ability and future potential of a player when compared to their peers + 5%team needs

Aish is going to be a good player... But we do not need more mid paced midfielders. We need electrifying pace...

Port are miles in front of us because they keep recruiting for needs... Last year was all about speed... White, Polec and Impie...
This year a backup ruck/key forward- Ryder...
We just seem to keep picking up slow mids...

Right now we need a defender and pace, giving away pick 9 for Aish( that's a pipe dream you'll be paying more) doesn't get us what we specifically require. The idea is to build a winning team by identifying your weaknesses and working diligently to plug those deficiencies.
All our thinking should be going into strengthening the team as a complete unit, I like Aish but he's not our major need this year and trading away our low pick means another year before we can address the problem.
Of course trade period could throw up a lot of permutations but that most probably means losing Dangerfield to get in a position to institute major change.
Right now I'm of the opinion that Dangerfield isn't going anywhere. If (a big if) he was traded then all bets are off and Aish would be a legitimate chance of being in a trade deal but only if the deal enabled us to be in a position to address our most pressing needs first.

That is a reason to get him. ; )

Same as Matt Crouch... Same as Brad Crouch... And Grigg... And Lyons...How many more slow one paced midfielders should we recruit?

Not saying down the track don't look at him... But that pick 9 needs to be for a super quick midfielder otherwise we will not go forward as a team

you recruit the best ones. the year we get aish is the year we trade or delist a plodder like lyons.

We need outside pace... We will never be a threat without it

of course, but the failed recruiting in the previous couple of years to address a need doesn't mean you don't chase the best. barring shoulder trouble, aish will be one of the best "slow mids" in the competition.

In what world is Brad Crouch slow?
