Tongue in cheek I know, but there's a difference between wanting to end up back home (Gunston) and not putting in when you're selected, as Aish appears to have. Talent notwithstanding, not sure that's the type of player we should be chasing.
You couldn't say Polec put in up there either.

It's not necessarily deliberate, the environment may not suit getting the best out of himself

I reckon that's a weak as excuse. You are paid $$$ to play as a footballer. You should be giving 100% of yourself every game. I'm not all that sure I'd like him to come to us if it means we've lost Dangerfield. I'd rather Dangerfield.

Seriously? He was one of the best rookie players last year but now had a bad game round 1 and its because he isn't putting in so not someone you would want at your club? Unless these is more to that comment that I've missed, its not only the media that draw long bows and talk a lot of sh!t!

There was the bne poster who said there's scuttlebutt that he's not happy with where he's being played or how to play. He should be a gun and if it was just an off game then it's likely that he would have been persisted with providing his effort was deemed acceptable. Apparently there was nothing holding him back during the preseason. Plenty of our supporters laid into Gunston for wanting to be home, at least there was no doubt about his effort on game day.

Cripes, we're now suggesting he is tanking. FFS

Not tanking, not working hard enough. Look, I didn't see the game, so I asked if he'd carried anything into/out of the preseason. Apparently he's fine physically, but the brisbane poster mentioned rumour that he's unhappy with the role he's being asked to play. I'm saying if a second year player us spitting his chewy while being selected, then he may not be the type of player we want to chase. There's a pretty big if there in the first place and having a poor game and being dropped is not proof in any way. However, I will maintain that if his effort was where Leppitsch wanted it, I doubt he would have been dropped after a single poor game. Again, that doesn't make any present issue a lifetime trait, so hopefully he can work his way back into the one's and perform at the level we know he can.

So someone on BF, a Brisbane poster ( noting he hasn't signed with them ) comes out with "he's tanking " - and suddenly no one wants him?

F...me - as if we haven't been burnt enough the other way around. I could give 2 sh...ts about his motives up there. All I care about is that we get him next year.

Start pre season now for all I care.

I think this is just Leppa giving him a bit of a kick up the arse. He hasnt signed yet, he played an average game (he didnt deserve to get dropped from one poor game in round 1 after a great last year) and so this is just him putting it back on Aish.
The kids all class and anyone who says otherwise it just plain nuts.

Your next captain too.

Anyone know how is Michael Aish keeping these days?

Unfortunately he's undergoing treatment at the moment for prostate cancer. However, his prognosis is fairly good from what I've heard as they caught it pretty early. Been a bit of a difficult time for the family though, his younger sister Susan recently passed away - she also had cancer.

Maybe just focus of Freo for now buddy.

After all Danger wants to be at a successful club, not a club on the slide...:)
Yeah.. cause you're really a club on the rise.. The only good thing you have going is Dasher in your coaching box.
Hawthorn have 0 chance of poaching him after resigning Gibson, Mitchell and Hodge to 2016 so I hope he enjoys Port :)

The fact he was omitted this week while a top line mid misses through injury suggests his effort/intent wasn't up to scratch. If that turns out to be the case then it needs to be addressed before we start throwing big money and draft picks at him. Of course, there's a chance that given he has put off contract talks that he's on Leppa's shit list and may get dealt with harshly throughout the year. Especially if BNE aren't heading for September action.

But a kid who should be on the rise, unhampered through preseason, having a poor game and getting dropped for rnd 2 is not what's expected. To be recruited here he's going to have adhere to elite standards and team first mantra's. If there is an issue, I'm sure he'll work past it. But you're not suggesting his dropping and the reasons behind it aren't a discussion topic in this thread.

We get burned the other way because the guys that leave us perform when they get their chances. We crack the shits because we lose players we want, not guys who have cracked the shits and languished in the 2's, when they are clearly a top 10 team-wide talent.

Again, very early days, but until his performances put it beyond doubt, this is a valid line of discussion.
