Some of you are being realistic. IF and that is a very big if, because we are signing a lot of our draftees this year. If he does want to come to Adelaide, he is not the type of player to nominate a club, so it could be port as well.

It would take a top 10 pick or a quality player. If neither you nor port have it, then as Leigh Mathews said he would be going to PSD.

I wouldn't be too sure that other clubs wouldn't pick him up either as he is such a quality player, they could back themselves yo keep him.

Thus is all assuming he does want to leave, but l am getting more confidant of him staying.

I can see the Crows finishing 7th or 8th this year which, after free agency compo, would net a pick in the order of #10-#12. I'm not expecting a huge change next year either, which means we'd be getting a similar sort of pick.

Would that be sufficient for Aish in your eyes?

Of course they would take pick 10 plus a second rounder for an out of contract player who wants out. Its fine talking tough, but at the end of the day they won't shoot themselves in the foot. Look what they took for Polec, a former top 5 pick...practically nothing. Pick 10 and a pick in the 20s is better than a slap in the face with a wet fish.

In the real world, when it actually comes down to it and we're not talking about chest thumping to the members anymore, nobody knocks back pick 10 to make a silly point that will only scare off future recruits. Dangerfield, Sloane, Talia, Smith, all our guns were pick 10 or later.

I guess alot of Brisbane supporters dont understand our boner over Aish. The Aish name is royalty in SA and one that is aligned with the Crows through Norwood. The only equivelant is Ebert and Port. So Aish coming to the Crows would be like the prodigal son coming home. Its not just us trying to hurt your team by poaching a SA lad.

Exactly, I hope they keep all the other SA lads, but not Jimmy. As much as I feel sorry for Brisbane, I don't feel sorry enough for them to want a once in a generation footballing story not to come to fruition. You just know great things will happen if there is an Aish running around for Adelaide.

Do players really fear going through the draft to get where they want?

I think the fear is mostly if your wanting to go to Melbourne you may get picked by a Melbourne team with a higher draft pick than the prefered club, have to negotiate a high first year deal with your club of choice to fit in their cap to scare off other clubs and then extend the deal with your club of choice with the contract front loaded.

If you pick up an interstate player wanting to go home after his first contract you run the risk of them leaving first chance they get.

Not as cut and dried as a trade but chances are you will end up in the state you want to go to.

I used to think the same thing too, at least in regards to big name players. I mean, if their contracts were high to begin with, then going higher still would allow them to price themselves out of most club's reach. However now we see young players with far less value like Ben Jacobs going to their club of choice with picks in the late thirties, does this mean they can do the same thing? If they can, why should they fear taking this option?

Vince plus our first rounder last season could have perhaps pushed us up into Aish draft territory. Realistically you only get one shot at these sort of players, and thanks to Trigg at crunch time we were penniless.

If only website hits were a legitimate, tradeable commodity...

Nah I don't know about that. We got 2 shots at D Jarman. Also 2 shots at Pav. One led to flag glory and one led to despair. The challenge is to learn from our past mistakes and not completely **** the job up again.

Would it even have taken that much? We would have only had to go 1 spot up the draft order... Ifs, buts and candied nuts.

Higher draft picks on our list than Aish? Doughnuts.

Players on our list drafted lower than pick 7 in recent years? Dangerfield, Smith Talia.

He is on track to play 20 games in his debut year and he has played very good footy.

Get real folks, he is worth a single digit draft pick. Unless we make like bandits, we will never see him in a Crows jumper.
Crouch. B.

Think you're kidding yourselves if you think you'll be getting Aish from us, either this year or next. Leigh Matthews has openly stated that what happened to us last year will never happen again. He will make an example of Aish if he decides to leave, he doesn't care if we lose him for nothing. Would be a different story if you or Port had a genuine gun key forward to offer us, but you don't. It will be pre season draft or staying at Brisbane for Aish. He will then need to decide whether Brisbane is all that bad or will he take his chances and maybe end up at GWS, West Coast, Melbourne or any other teams that will snaffle him before Port or Adelaide get a pick. We would rather lose Aish than our next 5 draft picks who think they can come to Brisbane then leave after their first 2 years to their club of choice. Aish will be paid overs to stay, we know that, but he won't be at Adelaide or Port after the end of this contract. Swann is our new CEO, Lethal will be our new Chairman soon enough, the tide is turning. We were a rabble but things are changing pretty quickly for us. We have a very good young list and success is not as far away as it looked before. We have beefed up our welfare department and we are getting great feedback from players parents and managers alike.

Good on you mate. Hope it all well works out for you. As we well know, nothing worse as supporter seeing quality players walk out the door. I think Aish will stay, seems to have much more character and substance than Polec, Gunston, Tippett, Davis etc.

Third best player we drafted last year (Taylor and Gardiner are going to be special), that said, hope we can keep him. He's a classy young player but a long way to go before he becomes a bonafide star.

Greg Swann seemed to intimate the other day that certain managers are leveraging to go home factor well in negotiations. Seemed confident we could keep everyone we wanted, but that we'd probably have to pay a bit overs early in their contracts.

That said, not sure why you guys are getting so excited. If you want Aish, you'd very likely have to pay something close to value for him - we're not going to see scenes like last year repeated again in a hurry. May as well just be equally excited about the draft.

2nd rounder + Mckernan?

Realistically I think it would be pick 10 + a fringe player. As good as Aish is, I don't know if we would trade you our 1st and 2nd round picks for him, especially if he nominated AFC.

A new management team at Brisbane and they won't be screwed over again like they were by four or five clubs last year.

Leigh Matthews was damning on telly a while back about what happened last trade period. He has drawn a line in the sand about go home players. Brisbane get a fair trade or they will PSD the player where they can pick him back up again just to stuff other clubs up, if Brisbane have an earlier pick.

The AFL was none too pleased either with last years exodus from Brisbane so we could expect to be leant on if we were trying to lure Aish for less than real value. Our first rounder in low teens would do it, it's just they we need to weigh Aish up against others we could get with that pick but I'm all for home grown talent. It stops the Gunston scenario where we got robbed.
