The thing I worry about Aish is that he seems like a genuinly great kid, and so may sign a contract extension instead of middle-fingering Brisbane. That being said if Brisbane are still a basket case in 3 years time I can quite easily see him coming to Adelaide. Being a top-6 team next year would certainly help in luring him as well.

His parents fly to every game. Thats not sustainable long term. He'll have to be a good son and play closer to home.

Secondly, the only reason he slipped to 7 and Brisbane was because everyone else knew he would come home. While I will feel sorry for Brisbane, if he does come home their problem will be entirely their own making. Everyone knew. As we know only too well, you should never make dumb decisions based on the premise you'll be able to change someone's mind down the track.

And those suggesting this fine, upstanding crows boy might end up at port need a reality check.

You seem certain he'll be back. Do you have any ties to the family, or is it more a gut feel?

Was he a hard core Crows fan?

Nah not directly. Most of my extended family are Norwood (poor souls) and he used to knock around with the same bunch of lads as my cousin's lad. They're all convinced he's coming home. They don't even consider that he won't as being worthy of consideration. And yeah avid AFC boy apparently

Geez if I was a Brisbane supporter reading this I'd be spewing. I know it's cut throat these days but still, I'd hate to keep losing high draft picks to the go home thing. Love to have Aish but not if Brisbane weren't properly compensated.

Brisbane are rooted. They don't help themselves though. They could've had Tippett if they weren't so tight. 12 and Polec would've done it but no they backed themselves in to change Polec's mind and lost him for squat. They won't go after Lachie Weller. If they were smart they would trade Aish to us for our first rounder and a second rounder we get for Lyons or Otten from a vic club then use our first on Weller. He's the best footballer to come out of Qld for years but he'll end up somewhere else and during his career a dozen kids will leave Brisbane. They don't do enough to go after what Queensland talent there is. Yet over 50% of their first round picks have gone home. They are in long term trouble and need to suck up some reality. Focus on drafting country kids and when Queenslanders come along they should be at a premium.

Great post Matty, I echo all of that.

No sympathy whatsoever. No way Aish was a #7 pick - he slipped for a reason.

Buyer beware

I think Brisbane was the last club we wanted to have drafted Aish considering what happened to them last year - They'll be doing absolutely everything to make sure they keep this next crop of draftees and will pay whatever they have to for that to happen....

I think its the best for our sake. Who the f*** wants to move to Brisbane for their entire 20's? Would be more likely to stay in Victoria if he was drafted there.

Maybe I guess..

Obviously I have no idea whether or not Aish will stay or go home to Adelaide - Would love it if he did, but would feel awfully empathetic towards Brisbane

i simply do not know how you, or anyone 'knows' this. please explain!?

Lyons trade? C'mon, we couldn't trade him last season and he's losing currency every week he's in the SANFL. I like him but he wouldn't get us a top 50 pick at this stage.

Assuming we aren't goint to trade any of our Super Seven - Dangerfield, Sloane, Walker, Jacobs, Smith, Talia, B Crouch - we have only a handful of tradeable players with currency, and one of them just signed up until 2017.

Which part? I presume the talk about him being a flight risk? Were you paying attention last draft?
well to be honest no. what was being said about him? wait, has he indicated that he will leave to come back to adelaide?

Trade hypothetical

Brisbrane receive: Petrenko, johnston, mckernan, CEY, shaw, and our first rounder (top ten possibly)
Adelaide receive: Aish, martin

Talk at the time was that interviewers weren't convinced. St Kilda especially were first red hot on him then went cold on him at pick 3. Collingwood as well. There was talk about him getting to the pick we would've had (8) which is inconceivable for someone of his talent who had already played seasons with grown men. Its all 'talk' (interviews typically aren't published), but the talk was about nothing except flight risk.

He's a huge AFC fan. Sanderson was giving interviews about how much he loves him and wants him at the club. His cousin (?) Georgia Aish works for the club, she was pretty excited about him on twitter (rising star nom?). There is plenty of smoke there.

wait, has he indicated that he will leave to come back to adelaide?

When has anything remotely like this ever been said publicly??

What has happened is that Brisbane offered him a contract extension before he played a game to lock him in long term and head off talk about him coming home. He politely declined. Smokey smoke.

He's in a very delicate position. He's a solid kid by all accounts. He won't want to fornicate Brisbane. He won't say "Oh btw Lingy I'm going to leave to go back to Adelaide *high fives*". Something will need to be arranged so that Brisbane come out without looking like a basket case. We will have to pay a fair price.

im happy for the crows to pay a fair price for aish (or at least close to fair), what do you think the trade will look like?

Depends when it happens. If it was this year it would obviously cost more than next year when he is out of contract. Either way a top 10 pick plus steak knives
