Sheesh - one win over the neighbours and they're up and about

The win over the Suns was nice but has absolutely nothing to do with the hard line stance most of we lions supporters have come to over being screwed over by recruits buggering off.

Eons is right. It's not going to happen again.

It's the nature of the business - kids will come and go.

Understand your pain, we've had it too.

The reality is though some kids will want to move and once they're out of contract there's precious little you can do - except talk tough of course

Dosent help your cause when you pick a kid like Aish though. Should have gone 2 or 3 but other clubs avoided him - you reap what you sew

Don't think Lethal is one to talk tough and not follow through on it. He will make an example of Aish and any other player that thinks they can come to Brisbane for 2 years and then leave to their club of choice. It won't happen, it's not a threat, he will send Aish to the pre season draft. It's up to us as a club to make them want to stay and from all reports from new players parents/managers etc, the feedback has been extremely positive.

Aish said that he wants to make a name for himself outside of Adelaide.

Greg Swann has also come in and said players like Aish will cost the Lions $400,000 to keep when his contract is up, when it should be $200,000.

All the talk from the new draftees is how the club is looking after them as well.

If he goes, it could be the straw that breaks the camels back and the afl will need to seriously help the Lions.

My 2c

That's great - glad you're getting you're house in order.

It's not going stop all kids though. Most players will still get to their club of choice via the draft.

So the Lions have a recognised go home issue, then they go draft a kid who other clubs avoided and who is a certainty to come home - then you want AFL help?

Take some responsibility for the dumb decision I think

Dumb decision?

Not trading pick 12 + Polec for Tippet was a dumb decision mate.

Drafting a highly talented kid in a NATIONAL draft, isn't.

It is when you've had 5 kids go home and this one will as well.

Tippett? Yeah the deal should have been done. But It was only that you refused to include Polec that held it up - how did that work out for you?

Its a baffling decision when you're in Brisbane's position to take a kid who is from a blue blooded footballing family in his home state after other clubs pass on him because of it. Craziness. You can sympathise with Brisbane because of what we've been through ourselves being relentlessly raided from interstate, but you have to take the situation into your own hands like we have done, predominantly drafting country kids rather than city kids. Since Gunston left we have spent our first picks in Bendigo, Tasmania and Ballarat. Once bitten twice shy. Aish has to be in the dictionary under the type of kid who is likely to want to play for his home town club.

I hope it doesn't get nasty though. I'm sure we won't try to bend Brisbane over, its not our style at all and its something we've never done. I'm sure we'll put together a fair offer. The really stupid thing is that Brisbane obviously need help in the form of some kind of retention incentive, but it will be incredibly hard to get the other clubs to sign off on it after how Sydney has abused the COLA.

We would be much better off if there was more QLD talent. Weller is there this year but he is the exception to the rule. Unfortunately there isnt that much talent, although the academies are there to help that.. until they start actually working and Eddie gets them shut down.

If in a national competition, with a national draft, one team has to start ignoring talent because they arw a flight risk, the system is fundamentally wrong and needs looking at. We cant be competitive if we have to pass on the best talent at our pick because they will go home.

I think he will stay, but after last year I say that with no confidence. At least the feedback we've had from draftees this year is all extremely positive. Parents and family very happy with the club and our welfare department. Despite the kids we have leave, we end up with some who love the place and stay.

The points that the Brisbane fans are pointing out are exactly why I thought Aish getting drafted to the Lions was the worst scenario for us -

Not that I have any idea because I don't know Aish at all, but just my instinct based on no evidence whatsoever

A very empty threat as we found out with Tippett.

Yeh the Lions cocked up a little on that one, but for a Crows fan to be pointing it out...that's some seriously interesting juice!

Might need your first round pick to get it over the line as well. Just to even it out we'll give you Petrenko, Reilly and Gus.

I know it's the Adelaide board, and I know that you're taking the piss - But this kind of posting is how animosity is created on BF

Ofcourse Brisbane fans are going to click on a thread about one of their players - Atleast try to be reasonable

*not solely directed at you, per se, others have done it - just thought i'd say something about it

The whole threat of the pre-season draft really is nothing any more. Once a player states where he wants to go, it's extremely rare he won't get there these days, whether that be by trade or draft. Clubs don't want to draft players in the pre-season draft who don't want to be there.

A little? Slight understatement..

Polec left and with pick 12 we took Docherty who left too. Mother of all **** ups.

That botched trade deal was a disaster for both sides.

In our circumstance I don't think it's a threat.

Depends on the character of the player. Aish is completely different to say Polec. Polec was lazy and thought it was his divine right to play AFL footy, he was immature and he openly admits that. Watching Aish play I have never got the sense that he isn't giving his all and he doesn't want to be there. If he did decide to go into the pre season draft based on his character and work ethic I really could see someone like a GWS or Melbourne taking a punt on him, he would give his all while he's there and if worst came to worst they could trade him for a top 5 pick after his initial contract. Pretty good odds for a player taken in the PSD for a club I would have thought.

Time will tell, he's going to be a star and I hope he hangs around, would be shattered if he left.

I personally don't think he'll leave anyway, but that's a gut feel, I have no idea about him or his wants like a few around here do, but I just think what Brisbane will be able to be well above anyone else effectively in the league.

Having said that, if at the end of the contract he does want to leave, and does want to come to Adelaide, he will get here.
