We looked at Polec. Aish's situation is no different.

Any SA-born first rounder who hasn't settled at their original club would be on the radar.

Big difference. Polec can break lines with his pace and he does have an elite kick.
If you've been watching Aish now and not relying on memory he does neither.
Even in those highlight packages as an Under 18 his kicking was nothing to write home about.
Worries me the overs we are prepared to pay for a average footballer because he's from SA and might be prepared to come home.

The only thing I can't agree with here is Polec's 'elite' kick.

Are we? Because he's from SA and might be prepared to come home is what means we'd be able to get him for unders, that's the whole point.

His 2015 has been poor, his 2014 was good. And it was as a bottom ager who was only a month away from being too young for the draft.

I think you undersell him because he didn't come from Westies :p

did someone say westies? video needs another bump.

If his name wasn't Aish or he wasn't from SA we wouldn't even be looking at him. To me that very strongly suggests that we shouldn't bother as we will be paying overs regardless. The performances he puts in at AFL level aren't really good enough for the contract and trade costs that have been suggested. If we can get him for a low second rounder AND on a cheap contract then lets do it, if we have to pay any more, or offer him a fair chunk of our salary cap then that is just bad business.

Disagree. If any of these players was linked in the media to the AFC you'd have a 50+ page thread.

2013 Draft

1 Thomas Boyd
2 Josh Kelly
3 Jack Billings
4 Marcus Bontempelli
5 Kade Kolodjashnij
6 Matthew Scharenberg
7 James Aish
8 Luke McDonald
9 Christian Salem
11 Dom Sheed
13 Patrick Cripps
14 Cameron McCarthy

He's not elite disposal but he is good on both sides of his body, makes good decisions and has good vision.

The second video is one game, not his career.

I know - but it was a game he got the Rising Star nomination - and if you watch it he makes a heap of really bad decisions and really ordinary disposals ... sometimes they cut the video before you can see the ball miss it's target.

Not quite the same, Polec came up for discussion only when clearly available but Aish has been followed the whole time.

Polec's name had been bandied around for quite some time, as early as 2011 in fact, only 1 year into his career, when we were in discussions with Brisbane regarding a potential early trade of Tippett. There was discussion every year after that until the end of his 4th year at the Lions when it became abundantly clear that he was going to leave.

I think you'll find any former first round South Aussie kid will generate a fair amount of discussion, especially when they're not getting a game.

Certainly Aish's name generates extra talk, but it has intensified as not only has it been pretty darned obvious that he wants to leave Brisbane, but he also had an extremely good debut year up at Brisbane, unlike players like Polec, Gorringe, Toumpas and Day.

It's funny that Drug's because I'm starting to believe a lot are overselling him because he's from Norwood!
Look Aish has talent but he has IMO a lot of deficiencies in his game. Kicking being one.
We need A grade talent and that normally means first round!
Aish was a first round player but going on his present play and what I'm witnessing with my own eyes he ain't that now.
We need to keep that 1st round pick and not use it on a player who isn't an elite kick, hasn't got blistering pace, doesn't take many over head marks and seriously, just does his job.
He's average at present.
He has an 18 possession game against Port ( his best for the year) and to some it's like he played a Master class.
If Mackay had those stats the board would be saying "about time, that's the minimum he should be getting."
People keep saying he's class.... well sell it! Put up stats or arguments that support the premise.
Those under 18 highlights certainly don't.

I get this, "he's not happy" but a first round pick!
Take a look at the Brisbane board and see what they're saying about him. 'Potential' is used a lot or 'he'll turn it around.'

If we don't get Aish and he turns out okay what have we lost .
We'll still get a good player with the first round pick we saved.
I don't think Aish is ever going to be a game changer.
If he signs to the AFC I'll embrace the decision but I'm simply worried about the cost Brisbane will ask.
That's my beef, paying overs when we have real needs elsewhere. If we get him at a fair price...no worries.
You're of a different opinion and think we'll get him for unders.
One things for certain what I think doesn't mean 'jackshit', the AFC won't be listening to me.
Thank god for Big Footy!

This "goal of the day" is nothing special at all IMO.

He doesn't do much but outrun a slower opposition and finish from inside 50 (just).

There is nothing in there that screams elite or get at all costs to me.

nah it doesn't but it was a nice segway ("segue" thanks Mr Bacon8). we won the flag. that's all i was getting at.

This is a flag segway.

You wanted a segue.

If we are that despwrate for a kpd, id hope that 1st was part of a trade to get a good one.

IF Calisle said yes, I can see our first very much being needed. May be out of contract, but essendon at a bunch of hacks at the trade and will accept nothing less.

Similar with Henderson, would require a first imo.

I agree. I'd much rather give up a 1st rounder to get a solid KPD than try and use it in the draft for the same purpose.
