So? If he had continued his trajectory then I guess it would be relevant ... but it seems he may have peaked a little early?
Do you honestly think this year's output at Brisbane is an accurate reflection of what he would achieve here? His first year before all this contract drama was a more accurate representation of his real trajectory. It was very good for a first year receiver in a bad side.

In 2014 he averaged 18 disposals, 5 marks and 4 tackles. In his first year. To put that in perspective, comparing their last full seasons:

Aish 18-5-4
VB 17-4-3
Wright 19-4-3

He's already got our seasoned 200 and 100 gamers covered at 19 years of age. And he can kick. With both feet.

Came out of the U18 champs with the highest disposal efficiency (87%). Ranked 1st in the 2014 rising star for contested possessions, 2nd for effective disposals, clearances and tackles and 3rd for total disposals. And he doesn't shit his pants when an oppo player comes within a 10 m radius.

The kid is class and would make us a better side over the next decade. Don't let this year's shenanigans at Brisbane fool you.

don't go using objective stats to prove a point. i've seen him on the tv on a lazy saturday night and saw him kick it out of bounds and he looked disinterested. pass.

Someone needs to make it so that every time someone complains about Aish, their post is automatically replied to with this.

Yes, I know, people are entitled to their own opinion, but could not agree with this more!

I hear what you are saying, but there is something about him that feels more like Jack Watts than Oli Wines.

I'm not writing the guy off, just trying to work out where he would fit and what he would be worth giving up.

How much of a risk is he?

BTW, comparing him to VB and Wright is a bit of joke ... surely you have to compare to him to what else is on offer in the market for his price. Neither of those two would demand much on the open market :)

Nice - you think those stats prove anything?

Tell me how good he will be then - you seem to be able to read it from a fair way out. Will he be better than Brad Crouch? Better than Danger / Sloane? I'm interested in your ability to turn some year old stats into cold hard predictions.

You have no clue like the rest of us.

And azza77 , if you think that there is no scope for discussion you are kidding yourself.

So you are picking selective stats from his good times and ignoring his current output. What's his average over all games he was available for? How many has he missed through non selection?
What's his efficiency in the past two years?

He's comparing him to those 2, because at this stage that is who he would replace in the blink of an eye.

And re-read my post again. I didn't want the first part to come across as way over the top, which is why I said people are more than entitled to their own opinion and carry on with the discussion by all means. Im just well in the "get Aish" camp that almost no amount of talk will convince me to change that.

OK - but then you would be in the "get almost anyone" camp if your pre-requisite is that they are good enough to replace either VB or Wright in 2016 !!

they prove he can goddam play football ffs.

**sigh** what a ridiculous line of questions for which you know have no answers.

let me summarise...

person who doesn't like aish : he's average. he's been dropped. he's slow. i watched him on fox footy on a saturday night once because i was bored and he stunk it up. do not want unless he came for a bag of chips and matthew smith. we only want him because of his name. i wouldn't even give up BFs own hero jarred lyons for him.

person who likes aish : oh I've actually seen him play in the flesh. for many years. he hates playing in brisbane. he had an excellent rookie year albeit in a rubbish side. he wants to come home. i think we should trade for him because we need some actual players with fricken football smarts who use the ball well. i wonder what it would cost to get him. probably a bit, but let's pursue it.

person who doesn't like aish : he might not be any good. i think we should stick with our C grade guns that are currently getting the job done. show me some stats to prove he can play football and will be better than our stars like wright and VB and mackay and lyons.

person who likes aish : gives stats.

person who doesn't like aish : stats are useless!

I'm glad you posted these Mattymac, these are pretty compelling figures for his first year.
It's his 2nd year that worried me, averaging 8 kicks and 5 handballs and 2 tackles a game.
These are the games I've watched closely and quite frankly his performances have left me scratching my head as to what all the fuss is about.
He's struggled to hit a target, showed average pace and has in a word, been poor. Absolutely has not impressed me one bit, and I'll stick to my guns on that.
I kept reading we should be giving up a 1st round for him and I just think we had greater needs than using it on the player I've been watching.
I am finding it hard to let this years shenanigans not affect me, as a professional footballer should be in the game for those two hours no matter how disgruntled.

Having said that the argument you've presented is persuasive and Aish definitely has talent.
As I stated in a previous post "A lot of posters love him and I'll defer to their judgement with the caveat at the right price.
I'm not convinced with what I'm seeing at present!"
From those figures above I can see why so many posters are bullish on him though.

*sigh sigh*

So no-one should question his development after his first year?

Those stats are a definitive answer to what he will achieve as an AFL player?

It must be simple to be a recruiter then, just have a spreadsheet - pump in the first year stats and hey presto.

If you feel that any discussion on Aish is unwarranted - then maybe stay out of this thread.
