We breed mentally stronger footballers? I think the main reason is as a South Australian entering the draft, you need to accept that you are almost certainly moving interstate to play football if you're drafted. There would be a lot of Victorians that think they drew the short stick by having to move interstate and a lot that fantasies about their career in Melbourne. When this doesn't happen, they also see being traded back to a Melbourne club as an easy option because there are lots of clubs who can step up to the plate and make the trade.

Nailed it.

Really seems like the last 12 months of Sanderson's contract (plus Trigg and co) damaged the club's reputation. The fact that one of the major Walsh-led initiatives was a big push for a focus on the development of a positive club environment for the players. Completely overhauling the players area and making it accessible to players only, opening up access to coaching staff, the club had also brought additional people in for player support and management.

Hopefully this is something that the club continues to invest significant money in. Have a look at what Hawks have planned with all their cash, they're investing enormous $$ in to new facilities for training but also for rookie players to stay at the club if they want to.

Sanderson's contract extension should have seen the entire board cleared out.

I don't trust one single ****ing person on the board who was there in 2013. Not one.

Our 2nd's remaining with the training group and playing together will lead to better retention of young talent as well. Would you want to risk bring a fringe player and bring farmed out to Centrals or South. I have faith that the low point we found ourselves under Trigg was as low as we could go. It can't turn around over night, but we're on our way there.

He protected them and was suitably rewarded. He never complained about the loss of Tippett for zero or the lost draft picks. He would have known our footy dept spend was at the lower end of the spectrum, but never mentioned it publicly. He got extra years for keeping his trap shut with regards to where Trigg and the board had driven the club.

Great post. Exactly what we need to do in order to try and keep our list together, especially the young players. Really hope this doesn't disappear now Walshy is gone.

Looks like Aish will be available at your picks in the draft, I believe you guys will have 12 and 13?
Will you guys use one of these on Aish? The Brisbane fans think you will

We'd only pick him if he wanted to come here. The fact that he hasn't come out and stated that, means we probably won't.

This idea isn't as silly as it sounds.

It's accepted that when a country or city is achieving sporting success, it boosts the economy. Everyone is happier, people go out, businesses are confident to invest and sponsorship money flows as businesses like to be associated with winners.

Therefore, the State Government should allocate say a $1millon to each crows and port as a slush fund to recruit and retain key players.

Let's bring in Dylan Shiel and make him the Minister for Keeping It Real on a nice Govt allowance.

Couldn't do any worse than Toolbox Tommy.

Bang bang. I concur with this.

Sando got made the scape goat for the board's total and utter incompetence. For only 3 people on the entire board to take the fall for the Tippettgate fall out does not resonate with me. Where there is smoke there is fire. It was just convenient that 2 of the 3 people that seemed to know about it were no longer there and the head honcho (triggy) got a paid extended holiday and golden handshake.

Sando could have come out swinging and leaked everything to media - especially after he got the boot. Surely his contract extension and subsequent pay out is as good as a gagging order.

Now that Brisbane have decided to deal should we get involved?

As usual Hawthorn have showed how it's done. Collingwood will struggle to get it done so should we step in?

I say yes
May as well be part of the conversation after we get our targets.

I'd chuck a second rounder at him, get Pyke to have a chat with him.

You'd think his best is yet to come.
Maybe Pyke has already chatted to him? I saw Aish in City Cross on Wednesday. Probably here on his break, but you would like to think the club sounded him out for a chat at least.

I'd hope a chat would also include "So why didn't you want to come here? What could the club do better to make this a destination club?"

Find out what these kids want.

Now that Rooch had read this post I expect an article about us chasing Aish soon. Wining and dining him with Bingboy.

Yeah its worth a go, you figure Brisbane would let him go cheaper elsewhere than get to Collingwood. Pick 28 should do it.:D

He's had every chance to express some desire to come to Adelaide and he's not done that. Our club can not afford to be adding players who don't really want to be here. It's the biggest problem we have, players leaving us all the time, so we can't trust Aish based on his desire to move to Melbourne and play for Collingwood. I'd love to have him on our team, I think he'll be a star one day, but we flat out can't be filling our list with players who don't want to be at Adelaide.

Aish will go in the draft to carlton. Now Collingwood and North don't have a first rounder. Brisbane should not accept a second round pick for him, better to send him to the draft given how many picks they already have.
