Really proud of James today.

He has been struggling to get a run, but with the injury to Corey, his chance came.

In the past he may have thrown the chance away, but with Cresswell mentoring him, he really took advantage, both last week and this.

22 touches, 7 marks and 6 tackles is a great return.

Hope he keeps working hard, because a firing Bartel makes our midfield highly dangerous.

Everybody knows i'm a huge fan.

Today, i was damn straight proud of Jimmy. Been talking him up for months, and finally, we're seeing what he is capable of.

Ive been a fan of his for a long time, he has only really found touch when he has had to work hard knowing his spot was on the line and it was now or never.

He could start in the centre while Smithy is out. That leaves Chappy & Ablett up forward.

So you'd have a starting 4 of King,Ling,Bartel & Kelly.

sounds good.

i guess King, Ling, Kelly would be three of the four in the square, but with the consistent performance of nearly all midfield players (or at least players who get a run in the midfield) we could probably put one of a number of players in the square.

I like the fact the Bartel has spent a fair bit of time in the 2's and has had to work his way back into the senior side.

This will (hopfully) keep him hungry. His last 2 weeks have been fantastic.

I really hope Bartel can maintain this form, because if he can, we'll be much better for it. He uses the ball really well, both under pressure and in the clear, and adds some class to our young midfield. He is also not bad around goals, as he showed with two classy goals in Adelaide.

How good was his Jon-Brown-style pack mark at the end?

Watch the meeja bandwagoners talk up Riewoldt's effort at the SCG, but completely overlook this grab, though.

Oh well . . . there's something to be said for being continually underrated.

We've had our fair share of publicity in recent weeks.

One mark, and a respectable game is worthy of a bit of praise from supporters, but not those in the Media circles. If Jimmy can do it on a consistent basis, he will win them all over ;)

Not bagging Bartel, but guys like Riccardi who dont like close personal attention always have field days against the dogs (one of the loosest teams in the AFL:( Not sure if Bartel is like that, but I wouldnt read too much into a game agisnt us.

We might get some praise from you one day, stefoid.

Remember this pearl of wisdom from a few weeks ago?

a bit of bravado. I tipped geelong in the office comp.

What I did say was that the respective defences would hold their opponents, and that if you kicked a score, which you did, it would be due to your midfield running free, which it did. Didnt anticpiate Ablet kicking 4, but then I didnt anticipate Murph playing at haf back again when he has recently done so well on the wing.

Are you suggesting Jimmy is soft ?
If he was soft,he would've pulled out of that last qtr mark.

Super mark that Jim took.Pity he didn't take it any other week and win mark of the week. Riewoldts will go close to mark of the year.
At this stage i think comeing off the bench is best for Jim as he won't recieve the same attention as Kelly ,Ling and Gaz.

The beauty of Geelong's midfeild right now is that there is so many options which makes it hard to match up on. I don't think it will matter a hole lot if Bartel starts on the ground or not just as long as he's in the side.

I'm not saying JB is soft (coz he is clearly not) but he definately needs to get a bit more mongrel and intencity about his game IMO.

Blokes of his shape and speed need to use their bodies and crash in. Use his natural asset. Get a bit of spunk about him. Like Lingy does. This is an area were I reckon JB could lift. His best games always seem to be against the Dogs or Dockers.

I think he is still just lacking a bit of self belief. Much the same way Josh Hunt did last year. Last year every time he went for a mark he'd duck his head. Soft is definately one word that came to mind, however this year that problem seems to have done a complete 360. He seems to have realised he belongs at this level so it's definately something that can be turned around.
