James Cousins - Rookie or not?

I was having this discussion with houdinihuddo the other day.

We were discussing the list, and whether James Cousins would now be elevated after Tom's injury.

He is listed a s a rookie here...

http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/football/players-and-coaches/rookie

However, I found the article I remembered reading last year...

http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/news/2018-10-30/hawks-make-final-list-changes

If he is still a rookie, it leaves us with only 37 on the senior list ... http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/football/players-and-coaches/senior ... and a team MUST have at least 38.

Can anyone clarify?

Senior listed last year was my recollection. I wouldn’t go off the player lists ;)

Nor would I, except for the fact that for a while, even after the elevations were announced last year, Mirra, Glass and Cousin were still listed on the rookie list for a few weeks.

Then, all of a sudden, Glass and Mirra are listed on the senior list...but Cousins remains listed as a rookie.

I suspect it's wrong too, but it's pretty odd

Senior listed. Also we never upgrade a rookie for an injury unless they are selected to play that week. why upgrade a midfielder now to play in the 2's and then when a key position or ruck rookie earns a game through form or injury there is no spot to elevate.

Rookie listed or not this is a great opportunity for Cousins who’s now in his third season on the list to stake his claim as a potential best 22 player. Depending on how his pre-season form goes he could be in the mix for Round 1. If he can play 10+ games this year that would be a pass mark.

May need to use him as a tagger at a minimum. Destroyed Z Merrett in our first meeting. Bloke had 40 the next time we met and nearly got em over the line.

If I am reading the eligibility rules correctly James is still able to win the rising star award. Given he is in his third season at the club and seemingly going to be given plenty of game time, he might be a sneaky chance to win it. Correction,as he plays for Hawthorn a sneaky chance to be runner up.

Looks like someone read this thread and updated the website, Cuz on the senior list page now not the rookie list page

If any Hawk will have a breakout season it’s going to be Cousins. He will be best 22 by the end of the year.

What was impressive about his game on the weekend was his clearance work around the stoppages and doing it without the help from Mitchell, O’Meara, Shiels, Burgoyne, Wingard, Smith and Scully who all didn’t play but Cousins still played well as the go to midfielder.

When they all return he’s going to benefit greatly and his output could increase.

What you're going to absolutely love about the kid is that he won't tire through the year and will get better and better.
Last year at BH he just shouldered the challenge week after week, never took a backward step, never sooked about not getting a run in the 1sts, is brave as all get out, and despite some comment that he doesn't have 'tricks' or can't kick - he's got plenty and will look classier and classier as the rounds go by and he realizes when he has the extra time to lay it down with finesse and when there's only a sliver of daylight to move it our way.
Absolute quality this kid, has Sicily level talent that just needs opportunity, fitness, and loving words from S Mitch to reveal fully.

Newman was clearly a massive fan. Was pushing him up at every opportunity and pumping him up in his game reviews consistently.

Should be a lock in your fantasy team, will return 100+ most matches. Great kid. Kicking is not his strength but it doesn't have to be.

I was actually most impressed by his outside game. Looks to have improved his tank and his ball use significantly. Decision making also stood out. Primed for a big year.

I obviously haven't seen him play any football live but have recently watched some of the BHH games from last year and he looked like he wanted the responsibility of leading the midfield, even with Andrew Moore side by side. Really hoping he gets a chance as he seems a natural leader among the younger guys, even with Worps. It was a good hit out for him against a pretty experienced and somewhat star studded Brisbane midfield, even if only JLT
