Because the media companies that control the largest market shares on cable and local news will not question them. Most people won't have a clue what's really going on.

Here's my analogy: I don't follow NBA or NHL. I would only recognize names that have expanded to general news universality, like Lebron. So there is some huge news about a massive trade or team folding, I probably wouldn't know much about it except a headline on mainstream news. This is how a large swathe of Americans consume political news.

But some will feel the heat from political issues soon. People I know have started reporting that the Purge has started in September. Massive layoffs, survivors guilt, and knowing there is more pain to come.
