Anyway, I totally agree with you, I love it when Kelly is in the team, you just know there's going to be fierce competition around the ball, his tackling is second to none in our team, and his disposal is usually great; he is guilty of the odd spray, or mis-kick, but not Coreyesque.

I knew the second I clicked post that someone would say that :P
I agree with his tackling but I think its even better, I consider him likely top 5 (if not higher) tackler in the AFL, the man is a tackling machine!
Your right his disposal isnt great, I never really say "wow what a great kick" that you say ALOT with Stevie, and sometimes with guys like Bartel, Selwood and Chappy but although its probably his weakness its not a bad attribute (and weakness as in not his strongest, its not weak by any stretch).
I tried just before doing a tier of Champion Geelong mids of this current era (2004-now) and I have him on the third rung, I have Ablett on his own (lets be honest he was a monster and I think deservingly on his own) with Selwood, Bartel and the like on the second rung with Kelly will the Chappys and Stevies.
I think thats fair.

I have Ablett alone up top in the AFL.
I have Kelly ahead or = to Bartel, and = to Selwood 2nd tier, at Geelong, and 3rd tier in comparison to Swan, Pendles, Judd, Kerr, Watson,, Cotchin, Mitchell maybe, Hayes, etc.
Seems we really rate him and a fit Kelly next year, if he wasn't fit this year, will be amazing.

Huge wrap for Kelly -i think Kelly has flown under the radar a bit how opposition teams ranked him-until the Fremantle elimination final -where Crowley was matched up on Kelly . So obviously Ross Lyon rates Kelly extremely highly -and very influential in Geelongs prolonged success

I think VEEDUBS got in before me but I would give Kel the "Boris of the midfield" tag - supremely underrated and most definitely missed in his absences.

Quite astonishing he played as many games as he did and at quite a high level if he was battling pain all year. Maybe it's possible he could go back up a notch and perform like he did in 2011 when he was the AFL's leading tackler and a deserving AA :)

I would like to admonish myself for understating in my previous post....

James Kelly is an absolute machine and a brilliant player of the highest order. I didn't really give the article full attention and upon rereading it, what a performance from Kel. To have a great year, his umpteenth, all the while playing thru the pain of the hip issues. 4th in tackles I think it was for the league....
Purely outstanding..... as usual.

What we, and I ,need to remember is that we have been truly blessed over the last 10 years with the development and success of the greatest cohort of players ever to don the hoops as a collective unit. We have had individual brilliance, and even team success, but I think in the future we will all look back and talk about the group from 06 - 12 as the most amazing group of players ever seen. Their legacy will remain regardless of what the future brings.

Bertrand Russell couldn't have said it better.
We've been absolutely blessed.

The blokes who made the great side of the late forties early fifties say Hi,back to back 51/52 and runners up 53,don't sell that lot short Daz they were every bit the equivalent of the 06-12 side.
Both amazing groups of players in the Blue and White Hoops.

I find this quite interesting that our toughest and hard working guys are getting these chronic pain type injuries.

If anything a shave at the hips will help with Kelly's aerodynamics.

They should have given him the full Rooke while he was in there, shave the thighs, port the sternum, bolt twin Hollies where the bid nuts are located and fit a set of extractors to the rectum.
Not to mention regrinded glutes for more medius and maximus grunt!
