I've gone with option 2 but he does not need to dominate VFL, he is doing well I think we should give him a go to see how he responds.

He has got the VFL level abiltiy & may step up well, so next week lets drop Whelan & give him a chance.

i dont think there's any negative's for doing it-
-We give him experience
-He can find his feet for next year
-It will give him confidence
-We all know he can kick

He'll get his chance this year. IMO McLean is in trouble this week and may be the change. Or is it time for Bails and co to make the tough calls on Wheels and Co.

Still spewing about Blease... Keen to see him on the big stage. Very big wraps for the kid.

Scully, Blease, Strauss, Grimes, Maric, Morton... Have faith kiddies

Option 1.

It's not like the pain can get any worse :(

Don't speak too soon. We are Melbourne remember. We can disappoint like no other.

With Strauss though, yes we should play him. We should be playing anyone under the age of 21 for the rest of the season. Even give Blease a go. I'd rather seen him hobble around on crutches than half the team that's in there now.

yes. his girlfriend and her sister might finally come to games. we need as many in the stands as we can get...and they have a fair bit of all right about them as well

Not ready yet. He needs to string together some big games at Casey before we consider him.

He's shown glimpses, but German has also only been using him sparingly at Casey. We already have too many inexperienced players in the seniors, adding another one at the expense of a more seasoned player is not going to help our cause (or his for that matter...).

If he can get some solid form at Casey he might be a chance to play a few games at the end. He's still some way off it though going on what i've seen.

He is a very good decision maker and kick though. Seems to always hit his targets. I'm excited by this kid...

Valenti has to come in and play the rest of the year we need a hard nut int the guts. And Brock needs to pull his finger out or I think we should try get a early pick for him eg. top 12

I went for option 2 as well - but like I said to someone last night, I'll be surprised if he doesn't get a run before the end of this season...

Let him string a few more games together. Doesn't have to dominate, just run out games.

Yep, this is where I'm at too. He will be very very good and could eventually be our Gilbee, but needs at least to be in the best half dozen at Casey a few times.

Anyone else getting a little worried? Has had some injuries holding him back, but I would have hoped for a little more progress in his career given he was taken with pick 19. Still got time, he's only just turned 20 but I want to see something, anything.

Only just managed to get a 'good' squeezed in at the end of this week's VFL player review...

James Strauss: I thought Straussy had a pretty average first half. Matera kicked two goals on him. He didn’t dispose of the ball that well - he just seemed to lack a little bit of purpose and intensity, I thought. I had a talk to him at half-time about it, and I thought that in his second half he rebounded a bit better. He played his one-on-one role and got a few touches and he was responsible for that last pass to Bate for the goal that won the game. At least he didn’t just keep going the way he was going, which was good.

Sadly for Strauss, injuries have held him back enormously. He was playing great footy in the VFL just before he strained his ACL think he looks a little bit untrustworthy in the knee still.

For the upside he has though certainly worth developing! Still dont see him palying backline though, why you wouldnt put him on a wing kicking beautifully inside 50 still eludes me!!

Was this poll started after the North debacle last year or something? People were angry lol.

Unfortunate how many injuries he's had, but give the boy some more time and hopefully he'll come good.

He needs to get going next year, or he'll be in strife.

Looked a million miles off the pace in his 2 appearances at AFL level, which isn't so bad, but he hasn't exactly gone back to the VFL and looked anything but pedestrian since.

And yes, I know injuries have hindered him a bit.

I'd like to see him play on the wing, because he is not so good defensively and does have a nice right-foot kick. But he's going to be hard pressed getting a gig in our midfield anytime soon.

I've been wrong on players plenty of times in the past (didn't think Frawley was much chop 2 years ago) so hopefully Straussy can prove me wrong. He definitely has ability, but I just feel he could be another Maric.

The selection of Strauss is starting to look worrying, in the 2008 draft I thought the pick used on strauss should have been used on a tall ruckmen or forward which is something we needed and still need, especially after we used a pick earlier on blease

In Hindsight (yes i knows its hindsight) We could of selected Trengove or Roughead instead of Strauss...:(
