not a fan of this idea at all. everyone seems to be saying that laycock and hille cant play in the same team, and that hille is not a great ruckman. fine, they may or may not get the best out of themselves with the other in the same team, but what makes you so sure that laycock will be able to play second fiddle to charman?

i rate charman extreamly highly, great player, has a premiership in the bank, but he isnt that much better than hille. if we are to trade hille i would want a mid/quick runner. i would try arrange a deal for a giansiracusa or brett peake kind of player. then we could draft another matty allan older ruckman and wait for ryder to come good as a ruckman.

i personally dont want to see hille leave at all, great leadership and a favorite of mine, but if he is traded for another ruckman ill pull my hair out

Couldn't think of a worse idea when we have a young ruckamn who thrives on being the number one ruckman.

I'd be interested in it, have heard a rumour about hille to Bulldogs, Power and a pick to Bris and Charman to us. Charman is much more consistent than Hille and has a lot more mongrel in him.

Why wouldn't the Bulldogs just trade Power and a pick to Brisbane for Charman straight up ?

Besides, would the Bulldogs trade pick 5 and Sam Power for Charman ? Brisbane certainly would not accept pick 23 and Sam Power for him.

Something like this may work.
Brisbane receive Sam Power and pick 5 for Charman and pick 25
Essendon receive Charman and pick 25 for Hille and pick 22.
Bulldogs receive Hille and pick 22 for Sam Power and pick 5.

i dont see the point in getting charman
hille and charman are pretty much the same player, charman is slightly better around the grounds then hille but thats all

there isnt much point in that trade..
imo our side is too tall.. we need to lose a few talls and get a few runners..

While i am not saying we should get Charman he is a much better ruckman than Hille.

There is no way known i'd even look at Charman. When you take into account he will be overpriced and unlikely to improve much on what he currently is and couple that with the number of younger, cheaper and potentially better ruckmen out there. I also doubt we are likely to get a ruckman we want and trade Hille in the same deal. If we are trading to a team that has to many ruckmen why then would they want to give us one of their potential stars and take our trash?

Something more appropriate would be to send Courntey Johns to Adelaide for Maric/Meesen/Biglands. Then send Hille to Calrton for a young mid.

Or maybe we could get Seaby from West Coast for Johns and a 2nd rounder. then trade Hille and a pick to the Roos for Swallow.

Its true Charman is much better than Hille, but Laycock IMO will be a much, much better ruckman than both of them so we wouldn't want to stunt his development by not allowing him to play as the number one ruck which he wouldn't be able to do if we picked up an older ruckman.

Charman is only 25.
Considering that most ruckmen start to mature between 25 and 30 then I would say there is plenty of improvement in him.

That same argument can be used for Hille as well.

There are no young midfielders at Carlton besides Murphy, Simpson or Gibbs that I could possibly entertain the thought of trading Hille for.

The old adage was that ruckmen took time a longer time to develop yet if you look at recent footy the rucks are developing just as quick.

Spot on.

That's why we should try to get Wood from Brisbane and he can play second ruckman to Laycock

He is quite gettable, unless Charman does leave, and is a real talent.

Would love to have Wood, as he and Laycock would be able to build a ruck combination for our future. If we could get Wood we could trade Hille easily IMO as even if one goes down with injury we always have Paddy to cover him. I think we should all be hoping that Charman signs again to the Lions so we have a chance of getting Wood.

It is understood the Sydney Swans are interested in young ruckman Cameron Wood.

The Swans may need to recruit a ruckman as Darren Jolly is considering returning to Melbourne.

The Swans have had recruiting staff watching the 20-year-old at most Lions' reserves games this year.

Premiership midfielder Richard Hadley, in his first year back after two years on the sidelines recovering from successive knee reconstructions, has also attracted some interest.

The Lions have four ruckmen on their books and could struggle to keep them all.

Wood remains in contract, but appears to have been overtaken by 2006 No.4 draft pick Matthew Leuenberger.

Jamie Charman is close to agreeing to remain at the club.

Is Wood actually going to be attainable? If Charman resigns and Leunberger get's the number 2 gig I feel Brisbane are more likely to try and turn Wood into their much needed key forward. Even with Bradshaw back next season it may well be his last and Clarke looks likely to take a while to develop. I feel Beau McDonald is the more likely to go of the quartet. He's 27 and struggled to get games early in his career behind Keating and charman and now both Leunberger and Wood are ahead of him I feel he would be ready for a move. He isn't the greatest around the ground but his tap work is class and he is a genuine ruckmans size where as Hille and Laycock often find themselves giving away inches to most opponents.
