Nice little turd on the academy cake this will be.

Three elite talents coming in for a bag of chips on minimum wage. Future taken care of.

Clear out some middling players for cap space and the picks to pay the disgustingly cheap cost of the academy kids. (Rojas, Flanders etc). Trade first into next year for extra points and /or a first for the future.

Use extra cap space to pay Elliot 800k plus for two years.

Pr-emiership-ofit?

It is pretty funny that after years of complaining that the entire comp was biased against them, that they couldn’t compete because of the go home factor (remember the ridiculous outcry over the ‘go home 5’) and that they needed extra assistance, all of a sudden the QLD clubs look like attractive destinations picking up great recruit after great recruit. You then add the cheap academy talent as a constant tool of priority top end picks, and for one club extra spice of recent star father sons, and suddenly the argument many of us made at the time looks even more on point, which was that it was performance and culture that made these clubs unattractive and leaking talent, not geography.

I said years ago the academy system is going to make the draft looks extremely silly soon, and the time has come. Now the AFL introduces tweaks years too late instead of anticipating them from the get go.

The AFL administration really has a knack for overcompensating uneven situations and compounding problems instead of fixing up root causes and keeping a steady ship.

On topic, would love Elliott to stay, having the 23 medal hopefully helps as it’s not a ‘now or never’ factor in getting a flag.

Brisbane have been shafted royally since their inauspicious foundation. They managed to patch together a fine team under Northey, made finals despite #VICBIAS, and the AFL turns around and makes them wear Fitzroys flayed skin.

They make that work somehow, and manage to wangle a fraction of what Sydney were gifted: yhe argument was "youre not gifting Sydbey success, its a sensible thing, can we get a slice?" and fair enough.

When that works they get their COLA yanked away without warning, it destroyed the club for a decade. Then the Suns and giants get their "assistance" (even more blatant) and Brisbane again pretends its not tampering "and so we can have some too of course" well played, the AFL throws them a bone.

I donf begrudge Brisbane success, they've had more disadvantage than anyone outside Freo and Port.

The help given to Sydney, Giants and GC has been far greater, cant punish Brisbane just for being competent enough to make it work. And if we do rip their advantage away they are cback in the "can't win because of #VICBIAS" headlock.

Brisbane were gifted 8 players and a percentage of a Victorian supporter base in the centenary year.

Fitzroy, a foundation team, never even got a vote on the matter.

And before you rewrite history, Fitzroy never even won a flag as the Lions.

Jon Ralf for Fox Footy;

“He would love to finish his career as a one-club player, he has huge loyalty there (at Collingwood), but he certainly has family connections up in Airlie Beach ... I think he is absolutely considering it at the moment.”

Someone needs to get the Fox Sports morons a map.

Airlie Beach is 1189km from Gold Coast's ground.

Imagine saying that he is considering a move to Geelong because he has family connections 250km north of Sydney.

You're suggesting Fitzroy supporters were given away like club assets? Not sure thats how it works.

Fitzroy were broke and operating on hand outs. Why would they get a vote on who got their remains? They got their debts paid and handed in their licence, the jumper etc already belonged to the AFL.

As for your last point, no one said anything about Fitzroy wining flags as the Lions.

I'm sure you have something interesting to but its unclear why you responded to me with this imaginative post.

It should be pointed out that Airlie Beach is located in the Suns' Academy zone. In fact, the Suns' North Queensland Academy Championships are held in Airlie Beach most years so we're very active in the area. We'll often send players up there to promote the game throughout the year and obviously that opens the door for Elliott to go 'home' and see his family multiple times during the AFL season. No other other club in the league can offer him that opportunity.

I think it's fair to say that a part of Elliott craves the Queensland beach lifestyle that he was afforded when he was younger and we would be the club in the best position to offer him that, along with in-season trips up north to where he grew up and where his family members are based. Just really depends on what Jamie values most at this point in his life.

If I was an AFL player, Gold Coast would be the club I'd want to be at, being able to play AFL and live in Northern NSW is the dream. Like Geelong without the shit weather and bogans.
But to link it to Airlie Beach is just ridiculous.

Waaaaaaattt?… I’m reliably informed that Melbourne is the worlds most livable city every year and greatest place on earth !!!.

Everyone wants to be there! … coffee, African gang activities , shite weather and “kulcha” ..
Oh just thinking about it Melbournes clearly the best city - just ask a Melbournite!
No need for the racist bit.

He'll be 34 next GF and 36 when his contract ends.

How many small forwards are still impacting then? Betts retired at 34 and so has Bruest just now.

2 years is more than generous. If he goes so be it.

We all know the line that's going to be rolled out if he does join the Suns. It'll be the standard 'to be closer to family', which isn't inaccurate. He would be closer, it's just not within a reasonable driving distance. Then we'll send him up to Airlie or nearby Mackay for a a few promotional trips and he'll get the chance to spend more time with his family. Plus, he'll likely discuss his Queensland roots and how he always felt a strong connection to the state/lifestyle. I'm absolutely convinced this is how it will go if Elliott decides to join us.

How many small forwards have a career-best season at 33? Not many. This guy isn't really comparable to a bloke like Eddie Betts who had his career-best year at 29 when he kicked 75 goals and dropped way off at the age of 33 and only managed 13 goals that season.

Sorry, but this is just a bit disingenuous, the only top line recruit the Suns have attracted since the inaugural year is Dan Rioli. As for the academy, yes we got four first rounders in 2022 in Jed, Read, Rodgers and Graham but apart from that year not a huge amount has come out of the academy. As an example there has never been a best and fairest winner, leading goal kicker, top 10 Brownlow finish, hardly the tour de force it’s made out to be. Give me 17 games in my home city a year like your mob get and a much better bite at free agents and I’ll take it

2 years would be fine if you were offering more than a half a Perryman to him.

Suns traded pick 2 for Weller.

Paid a stupid amount for him but he was the first decent player who asked to be traded there.

Your point is valid though. Pies about to fall off the cliff but they will rebuild pretty quickly due to the willingness of players from 9 other teams to move there without selling up. Plus all the go home Vic players asking for trades every year.
