Don't you just love it when a rookie takes his chance and becomes a very good AFL player.
Thumbs up for the rookie system, and thumps up for you jammo:thumbsu:

Please don't put that type of pressure on the lad.

I'd like to see him involved in the leadership group, but captaincy? I'm sorry, but he's got enough to worry about on field already let alone adding all of the extra pressure that being the on field captain (albeit for only three weeks) would carry.

Not only that but he has to prove to himself that he's ready to go in the big stuff after missing the last parts of last season through injury.

Good on Jammo for working his tail off - award him sure, but don't put more undue pressure on him.

HE put up his hand. Obviously he feel like he can do the job even if you don't.

I didn't say that I don't think that he could do the job as I believe in Jammo. I just believe that there is somebody out there that could take the responsibility without having too much on their plate.

I'd personally give it to Gibbs or Simmo.

I also have a problem with a full back being the on field captain of a team. Growing up I always admired the captains who would be attacking the ball and have an impact throughout the majority of the ground.

I remember Sticks dropping as far back as the defensive side of the wing on a regular basis, Wayne Carey was huge at doing this. James Hird epitomized the do-it-all captain. A full back is limited in that role because of the importance he plays on the field... Centre Half Forward is a prime position for a captain (we don't have a captain nomination there just yet) so it falls to a midfielder.

Just know that I think Jamo would be admirable. Never said he wouldn't be good.

I think give it to simmo or gibbs. i believe captaincy for 6 rounds did a lot for simmo when he was handed it a couple years ago.

I remember a passage of play where he put in 3, 4 even 5 efforts including a smother and a couple tackles. inspirational.

I said earlier this year sometime that Jamison should be the next captain of Carlton, and I stand by that comment, from a media (and some supporters point of view) he is our most under-rated player, and is a total professional the way he goes about his footy and his training etc.

I suspect the club will want him to gain some match fitness and make sure he is over his niggling injury problems, so that is why they probably will go for Simpson to be captain in Judd's absence, but the fact he seems like such a solid citizen off the field (something Gibbs has yet to prove IMHO is anothe reason why he should most certainly be in the mix to be the next captain of Carlton.

Have to disagree there, Tom Harley was a backman and a great captain, I happen to think that Jammo has the goods...make a great captain one day.

It is a bit different. Harley was more of a floating, attacking half back flanker, who was incredible with the media. Jamo is a defensive defender, and cant really influence the whole team. I love Jamo, but don't think he is an ideal captain, due to his position. Likewise with Darren Glass, great player, doesn't inspire the team as a captain

Captaincy is not pressure, some people are made for other are not, Simmo is made for it. He played his best footy when given the honer. Some don't need it to take the extra step other need it to get the best out of them self. Simmo should be our full time captian and jammo VC.

Jammo is great. It's all about stringing games together for him. He's so key to our side.

Yeah a bit worried about his durability. Let's hope he can play all games this year.

If he gets his body right he will be the best defender in the league very soon. Can adapt to play on both tall and medium forwards, with great closing speed and strength.

Those opposition supporters who say we cannot draft outside of the #1 pick have nfi

  • Jamison (rookie)
  • Joseph (rookie)
  • Betts (PSD)
  • Armfield (pick 46)
  • Carrazzo (rookie)
  • Garlett (rookie)
  • Robinson (pick 40)
  • Simpson (pick 45)
  • Thornton (rookie)

Well there's alot that disagree, there;s plenty of backman who make great captains, Newman, Maxwell (pies love him) etc, these guys had a lower profile until they became captain, it depends what sort of rapport Jammo has with the players and by all reports, he;s held in high esteem, not what you or I think, but the players & coaching staff
I think in time he would make a great captain...
In the mean time Juddy;s just fine :)

It's abit of a silly/academic argument, as Captain Juddy has plenty of time left, but both Newman and Maxwell are also floating defenders who push into the midfield at times. Anyways, who cares. Whether he is captain or not, he is still awesome:D

Seriously impressive effort on Fevola yesterday.
Although the delivery wasn't great (it wasn't shocking either)
He handled his opponent one on one - got inside his head.
Dominated him below the knees (surprise, surprise)
And outpointed him with strength as well.

Here's to a long and fruitful career #40!

I'm going to ask a generalized question.

Who was the last permanent backmen (non-floater) that was captain of an AFL side?

There has to have been someone since Danny Frawley, right?

Speaking of Bower, I've had the pleasure on a couple of occasions to chat with Paul's father.

Every time you hear that he wants to return home to play for the Eagles or Dockers, dismiss it almost instantly. Paul's father says that he was raised to be a true clubman, that Paul loves the Carlton Football Club and would play with the team until he's no longer wanted by the club. Paul wants to be a one-club man and Dad truly believes that the CFC was the best thing that could ever happen for his son.

There were a number of rumors last season before he signed his extension that he wanted to return home and I'm sure that they'll pop up again when he comes out of contract next time.

Brilliant to hear :thumbsu:

If we can nail a real quality small defender (Armfield is coming along nicely) we should have one of the best backlines going around in a couple of years.
