What's there to explain?

Straight forward statement.

And the atmosphere at the League 2 game blew the A-League straight out of the water.
My brother had an English mate stay over here with us, he's a Newcastle supporter and he said that the top A-League teams could be lower Premier League teams.

Never going to happen IMO.

If he was to end up there then it would be a straight up swap, none of this sell us Mata now and we'll sell you Rooney at the end of the season.

No they couldn't. Brisbane in their undefeated streak would have made a good championship side but no team in A League history is anywhere close to PL quality.

Mata would change United. He is one of the most creative playmakers in the world who can make chances out of nothing and win games with a single piece of genius. Moyes doesn't like those types of players.

Your brother's mate is an idiot.

The "A-leauge All stars" lost 5-1 to a Manchester United team that wasnt even fully fit or full strength.

Sunderland, West Ham, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Swansea, Stoke, West Brom, Norwich, Hull and Aston Villa will all comfortably account for ANY team in the A-league, and thats before you even consider the ass pounding the top 10 teams would hand out.

Still actually baffled how people rate the A-League. Yes you can like it etc, but don't kid yourselves and think it's a good league. Wouldn't even be in the top 20 European Leagues.

Please don't use that as a reflection of the league... It was basically a squad made up of anyone who had nothing better to do on their holidays.

I may as well quote that Melbourne Victory lost 2-0 to Liverpool with over half of Victory's regular starting XI not on the pitch.

It's probably somewhere between league one and championship standard.

United didn't exactly play a strong side either.

And the A-League squads are made up of anyone who could achieve nothing better/finished with their careers.

NSL had more flair/better players than we have in the A-league now.

Liverpool did have only 10 players on the pitch for a bit in the 2nd half. Suarez may as well be replaced by a cone.

I agree with you but in the A'League's defence, the cream of the comp were playing with the national side so the 'all stars' were basically the leftovers.

Disagree. Im football mad, completely football mad. But if the passion isnt there, it isnt there. You cant pretend. I love LFC with every fibre of my being. Perth Glory? I couldnt name anyone who plays for them.

Simple as that really. Just because I love football doesnt mean I have to love the A-League.
I find it hard to pay close attention to some A League games when on TV but I always find it more enjoyable to watch in person. Even if the crowd's aren't sell outs, you normally get a decent atmosphere to enjoy the game in (even if that doesn't even come close to Europe/South American levels of passion). There was only a smidge over 5k people at the Heart Jets game on Friday but even I got a kick out of seeing the Heart fans singing and chanting for 90 odd minutes!

That's a laugh

Explain how players like Vidosic and Bozanic can go to Switzerland and tear up the league like they never could in Australia. I think Vidosic has made the Swiss team of the week something like 5 times in 11 games. Or how someone like Contreras can go from starting in a champions league team like Olympiaikos and then coming to Australia and becoming just an average A League player, no better than Nick Ansell. Or even someone like Matt Ryan who was a very good A League keeper (yet still not clearly better than someone like Galekovic) going to Belgium and becoming pretty much the best keeper in the league. I could reel off more examples.

The A League is never going to be as good as the top leagues in places like England, Spain, Germany, France, Portugal, Holland etc. But I really don't think it's lagging behind places like Switzerland, Croatia or Scotland like many seem to think it is.

Anyway this is the Transfer thread so I'm going to leave it there...
