That's a laugh

Explain how players like Vidosic and Bozanic can go to Switzerland and tear up the league like they never could in Australia. I think Vidosic has made the Swiss team of the week something like 5 times in 11 games. Or how someone like Contreras can go from starting in a champions league team like Olympiaikos and then coming to Australia and becoming just an average A League player, no better than Nick Ansell. Or even someone like Matt Ryan who was a very good A League keeper (yet still not clearly better than someone like Galekovic) going to Belgium and becoming pretty much the best keeper in the league. I could reel off more examples.

The A League is never going to be as good as the top leagues in places like England, Spain, Germany, France, Portugal, Holland etc. But I really don't think it's lagging behind places like Switzerland, Croatia or Scotland like many seem to think it is.

Anyway this is the Transfer thread so I'm going to leave it there...
You could make the argument that they can tear it up in Switzerland because they are playing with higher quality players who have lifted them to another level, rather than playing with fairly average players on lower quality pitches with less football-intelligent coaches.

I like the A-League and it has certainly improved drastically in the last few years, but in terms of quality of football it's well below most european leagues.

A few interesting developments for us overnight on the transfer front:

Reports saying the Cabella deal is close but that he won't join until the Summer (European) i.e - end of the season. He has said he wants to ensure Montpellier aren't relegated before he leaves. Their owner has come out and said a deal has been reached so it might just be a case of finalising the small print/agreeing terms.

Cabaye has come out and said he is happy in toon and has no desire to move this window (makes sense since he is going so well in the number 10 role and in ripping form).

A few less creditable sources have also claimed we are interested in Salah from Basle (take that with a pinch of salt).

Joe Kinnear has also said "I will not let any player leave Newcastle United in this window." Given we had the same stance on Carroll, I'll believe that when the window shuts! :p

Sounds like your classic "sign then loan them back to club you bought them from until the end of the season" deal

My brother had an English mate stay over here with us, he's a Newcastle supporter and he said that the top A-League teams could be lower Premier League teams.
Well being a Newcastle fan would probably rot ur brains so not surprised he would say that :)

I reckon Brisbane Roar/Central Coast Mariners would be bottom half Championship/top half League One sides in the English system.

If Jedinak returned to the A-League he'd be a marquee signing. In the EPL he plays for a team that will probably get relegated and supporters of clubs that aren't Crystal Palace probably don't even know who he is.

Absolutely no chance. He's injured just to begin with.

Good loan moves for both Coates and Ilori. I think Coates has no future with us, Ilori probably does. Hope the loan goes well for him.

Still nothing on incoming though.

Your brother's mate is an idiot.

The "A-leauge All stars" lost 5-1 to a Manchester United team that wasnt even fully fit or full strength.

Sunderland, West Ham, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Swansea, Stoke, West Brom, Norwich, Hull and Aston Villa will all comfortably account for ANY team in the A-league, and thats before you even consider the ass pounding the top 10 teams would hand out.
Funny you say that when he would have a better understanding of the English system and teams than nearly everyone that posts here.

Seeing to many Mata to United articles. Would rather cut off my left nut than see Mata in a red shirt in the PL. If he has to go anywhere I'd rather him go to La Liga or PSG somewhere like that!
