Pretty sure we had heavily scouted Luis Suarez when he was at Ajax, just prior to when he signed for Liverpool. Apparently the story goes that Redknapp had concerns over whether he could play as a loan striker and possibly Sherwood saying that he didn't think he was a good fit for the Premier League or something like that, jd2010 or NSFB might remember a bit more about that one.

Apparently were were also nailed on to sign Eden Hazard and Oscar when we finished 4th and looking like playing in the Champions League the following season. That was until Chelsea won the Champions League and knocked us out before we'd even played a game, a situation made worse when those players went on to sign for Chelsea. And of course later on, the Willian transfer situation is well known.
Recommended to Sherwood and Ferdinand while they were underneath Arry by Gullit who suggested we should snap him up and apparently they were unconvinced of Suarez.

Big mistake.

Lack of hunger to succeed?

Not enough bite in the tackle?

Don't really care about half of those names, but you can add players like David Silva (2009) & Stevan Jovetic (2010)(didn't meet the asking price); Henrikh Mkhitaryan (2013), Willian (2013) and Diego Costa (2013)(opted to join Dortmund & Chelsea respectively) to that list. Made offers but for whatever reason they didn't come off, I'm sure every club has similar stories - who's your biggest regret?
Probably Ronaldo that I can think of. Surer there is a CB or two that belong in there.

Part of me wants to say Ibrahimovic, but fi we signed him, I doubt we would have had Henry, and I'd much rather Henry personally.

Henry joined in 1999.

Funnily enough if everything had have gone right Arsenal could have signed Cech (work permit) Ronaldinho (work permit) and Ibrahimovic (rejected) all in 2001.

GazBaz was integral to our 11/12 title. The mistake wasnt trying to buy him. It was trying to buy him as a replacement for Alonso.

But there was conflict between Alonso and FSW wasnt there?

I don't know why, but I just feel like we're going to get something... special for this. We've been looking at a few options now, but what we need is a striker that will fit our game perfectly.

It would be finally nice to rotate our striking options to keep fresh and ready.

Sorry Robert, we don't give trophies for free. You actually have to earn them.

dongou has had his contract rescinded by barca, joins macky bagnack as one highly touted prospects now without a club in the last few days. have to wonder if they're just giving these guys a chance to get out of barca b, who are now just 1 spot above relegation in the third divison.

Wouldn't be surprised to see them get picked up by Premier League teams looking to snag a freebie.

Alonso wanted to witness the birth of his child. FSW wanted Alonso to prioritize an upcoming game.......

Sorry lads he's off the table :cry::cry:
You seen the most liked post in the facebook comments about this story? I kid you not this is the quote from the comment:

" Great news, Ivanovic for me is a club legend and not far of Terry, lampard, Drogba and Zola in the list of modern day greats."

Would have thought he'd be competing with the likes of Coutinho and Firmino for their natural position in behind the ST? If he is more a winger then yeah you are short of options other than Ibe
He can play anywhere across a front three. But it's just his weight of goals which is the attractive feature. We simply dont get enough goals out of Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana and Ibe. Ibe is of course young, Firmino still new and getting used to the league. Coutinho chips in but has had sketchy form and Lallana is just useless. So Tex's goals would be key, if of course we sign him, which we wont anyways.

Attacking mids don't score goals regularly in the PL unless they are true number 10s like VDV or Bergkamp etc.

Imo he wouldn't be prolific here, 1 in 4-5 he'd probably go at instead of 1 in 2, if anything an Oscar or Eriksen type output would be the best he could hope for

A gun winger would be more likely to be prolific instead in England
